The Worldwide Web is the world’s largest marketplace and the best place to market your product or service. Online marketing is similar to traditional marketing in some ways. You need to get your name out in front of people and get them to make a purchase.

Search engine optimization is a great way that you can generate additional customers to your online business. When people do an online search they use a search engine. There are literally thousands of websites for people to choose from when they get the results. You need to ensure that your website comes up in the top of the search engine results.

Research has found that people only look at the first one to three pages of results from a Web search before choosing to click on a site. Therefore it is of extreme importance that you get your site to the top of the list. In order to keep people coming back enough times to make a purchase you need to provide them with some useful information once they reach your site. Keep your site up-to-date by renewing content often and by adding current features such as a blog.

The best method to use to get your website up in the rankings of search engines is to use search engine optimization. Search engines use special software called "Web crawlers" or spiders to locate information from websites throughout the Internet. The search engines locate Meta tags from website pages.

Meta tags are one of the primary ways that search engines locate sites and rank them. This is why you need to get keywords and phrases in the Meta tags of your site that will properly represent your business. Meta tags consist of about two sentences that use keywords to describe the web page. Meta tags are usually fewer than 26 words and are used by the search engines to determine your rating in the search results.

The keywords are important because this is how you will be ranked. Most people never look beyond the first couple of pages of returned results of an online search. This means that you must get your site in the top three ranking pages in order to be successful at search engine optimization and drive business to your site. The most important page of your site is your home page also sometimes called your "landing page".

Choosing keywords is very important in ultimately getting business to your website. Keywords work best when they are as specific as possible. For example if you have a travel business you may think of using the keywords of "travel" or "vacation". Yet these keywords are too broad and will produce millions of results. Instead you need to choose keywords that are specific and useful. In this example better keywords may be "Bahama Cruise" since this is a real term that people may be searching for. As you can image there may be hundreds of keywords that can be used to search for your site. If people commonly make spelling errors these should also be used as keywords.

Once you understand how search engine optimization works you’ll be better equipped to make decisions that will work for your site. Focus on the keywords that are used for your type of business and make a list of them. Then you will need to provide website copy and Meta tags that use the keywords that are the best representation of your company. Using search engine optimization properly will greatly improve your visibility in search engine results and thus will improve your site traffic and sales.

Anyone that is interested in ensuring that they experience success in their home based business should take the time to learn about two very important things:

1. About SEO (search engine optimization)
2. About social media (web 2.0) tools that can help them

SEO and Social Media

SEO is an acronym that stands for search engine optimization and it’s the act of attempting to optimize your site so that targeted visitors can find you. SEO can apply to a website and to individual online pages that reside on other sites as well.

Social media tools are tools that help you to socialize online in various ways. Likeminded individuals can share information and network and both of these factors can work in your favour if you learn to use them to your business’s advantage.

How to capitalize on search engine optimization and Web 2.0

New web 2.0 marketing tools are being released on a constant basis and they help you do a lot with your website. Learn to use the power of social network marketing and you’ll drive both human traffic as well as search engine spiders to your site.

Getting search engine spiders (the little software programs used by search engines to help discover new websites) to your site and getting them to index you as highly relevant for the right keyword phrases will result in even more search engine traffic being sent your way and then if you get the right people onto your well-optimized site, this can translate to great profit potential for your online business or profit seeking efforts.

There are plenty of different social marketing sites such as:

- Sites that let you put up your articles (that contain your by line) for free

- Ones that allow you to post marketing and informational videos on the internet

- Websites that let you blog for free on their sites

- Services that encourage socializing through micro blogging and life streaming

- Websites that want content for the purpose of generating advertising revenue

- Free utilities that enhance your site in many ways

- Services that want you to bookmark the things you enjoy online.

- And the list grows on a constant basis…

All these websites can help your website’s search engine optimization for the keywords and keyword phrases that you want to rank for. They can also bring people to your site or page as well and if you are able to successfully target the right people, this can help you sell more of what you’re seeking to sell.

Search engine optimization and social media are two things that compliment each other nicely so it would work to your advantage to learn all you can about both.

Learn how to: find the right keywords, how to position yourself well, how to figure out what people want, how to convert more browsers to buyers, and learn to get new clients to become repeat clients.

The more you learn about unleashing the power of social media tools with your own social networking campaigns, the more successful your online business can be.

Learn more about the potential power of SEO through social media campaigns by checking out the free SEO Exciter Series via video tutorial from Matthew Bredel of TheWebReviewer.com.

There, now it’s out there; the "C" word, Christmas. Somehow it’s become politically incorrect to wish others Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa or anything that suggests a belief system. Well, I’ve decided to forgo political correctness at the risk of being labeled "politically inept" this holiday season.

Be Different in December
I choose to celebrate in December because Christmas is in it. You may celebrate in December for a different reason. I not only respect but cherish that diversity among us. Yet that diversity is discounted and stripped away from us when the Politically Correct (P.C.) Police force all to be the same by restricting us to Happy Holidays and Seasons Greetings. Can we Americans afford any more loss of our identities? Can we afford to lose the meanings behind our traditions, actions and feelings?

The advent and proliferation of social media encourage us to "live in the open." Tools like LinkedIn, Facebook and YouTube enable us to share what makes us human. In theory, our humanity should make us more desirable as a business associate. When you defy the P.C. Police and offer a greeting with more flavor than Seasons Greetings, we learn you are a person of character and courage as well as spirited and thoughtful. Much is shared in less than 2 seconds!

Speak Your Peace of Mind
We’re entitled to all speak our own "language" of the season. Consider that, as an example, if one of us speaks Spanish, another French and the third Italian, none of us can be accused of being wrong. Background, upbringing and, sometimes, life choices enable each of us to express ourselves in a preferred way. I prefer to offer Merry Christmas because it has meaning in its language that I understand best and represents the best expression I’ve got to give. The P.C. Police stand ready to chastise us for choosing the "wrong" form of expression. I’m giving others a gift of my heartfelt wishes; Merry Christmas enables me to present those wishes with the clearest and strongest meaning I know. By watering the message down to Happy Holidays, I feel like I’m cheating you, giving you less than the best I have to offer.

I can accept that not everyone will be happy with my gift of Merry Christmas. Some will take offense, but that’s because they choose to be offended. They’re so concerned with their own selfish perspective of the way things ought to be, they can’t see my gift for what it is. Let’s face it; some people are looking for reasons to be offended.

Give Your Gift Any Way
You must be willing to get into trouble now and then if you’re ever going to be comfortable using your preferred greeting at every opportunity. When you occasionally find someone who takes exception, is offended and won’t accept your gift, don’t blame yourself for their problem. I refuse to walk on eggshells because someone might want to pick a fight over my choice of words. Saying Merry Christmas doesn’t mean I’m pushing religion; I don’t expect anyone will convert to Christianity because I offered them a Merry Christmas!

I encourage you to join The League of the Politically Inept and give your greeting gifts at every opportunity during December. I’m convinced most people appreciate it, and your encouragement emboldens them to do the same. When December is over the politically inept will have had a lot more fun than the politically correct. Don’t forget the reason you celebrate this season, and continue to be generous with your gift of your favorite greeting.

Following up from the last set of Social Media Marketing webinars where we covered the basics of Twitter and other Social Media tools and sites, I have been getting questions about using Twitter for business purposes. In response to those questions, I wanted to write out a short list of Twitter for Business best practices and some of the most popular tools that make these practices possible. This list of tools, techniques, and what is possible is changing and expanding almost daily with the explosion of Twitter usage and discussions of Twitter merging with some other site/partner. Thus I expect to stay current on using Twitter for business purposes we will need to repost more on this topic from time to time.

Be Real (don’t hide) -

It is important that you completely fill in the registration and profile information when signing up on Twitter. If you set up your Twitter Id as a business name it is less real than using a personal name. If you still want the business name in there, you could possibly add the company after the persons name (like Dell computer has been known to do with names like "PatrickAtDell"). In the profile section, post your website. I wouldn’t recommend a short URL here if you can avoid it since this is your brand and the full link helps in your SEO rankings. Also in the profile section you enter in relevant search terms in your profile description.

With the profile bio limited to 160 characters, you want to get the relevant keywords included. By doing so you don’t have much space to talk about the business specifically. However you can also squeeze in more content about your business including other websites, urls, logos, or content by uploading a custom Twitter background. Be aware though that the search engines and tools people are using to find you will not pick up words or content located in the background image. That’s why the keywords have to be in your description.

Finally and possibly most important is that you need to upload a picture. People want to see who they are communicating with, even if you are representing a company. If Twitters don’t think you are real, they are less likely to be interested in following you and learning more about your business (we are Twittering for Business here remember). If you try to hide with no picture, just a logo, an incomplete profile or no description, the cynical side of social media marketing will take over, people will assume the worst and they won’t follow you.

Participate (be Relevant, contribute, share, respond) -

For a business or business person to be relevant in the Twitter conversation going on, they need to participate. Ask questions and elicit responses. Respond to other user’s questions. Tweet not only your own relevant contributions but retweet (RT) other Tweets that you find valuable. Promote and/or attribute others where there’s a reason to do so. You can build a following faster if you appear trust worthy (easiest way to do that is by actually being trustworthy), know your subject matter and don’t look like you are just out the get them to buy something.

The graders and ranking sites look at both your following as well as your activity. There’s a number of search tools that will help you here to see who is talking about what and who is specifically responding to you (for example with @replies). These tools can help you determine where you might want to jump into a conversation and build that relevance. This is important in being noticed by searches from other users. You build following with contribution, relevance, and responsiveness.

The number of keywords in your tweet cloud is also important. Are you an active Tweeter? If so, what are you tweeting about? Are you relatively consistent in what you discuss? There’s a big difference between using Twitter like text messaging and blogging each trip to the grocery store and using Twitter for business with a targeted, specific approach to your online identity and the topics you take on. Again, the grading web sites will pick up on this targeted approach and quickly move you to "elite" status in your chosen keywords if you Tweet with some forethought.

Automate (where possible) -

Reduce the time it takes you to research what is happening in the Twitterdom, speed up your own Tweeting, get yourself followed automatically, and build ranking faster and easier. There are several automation type tools available to help build your Twitter for business presence without having to hire a back room full of people:

–TweetBeep -Set up alerts for various keywords, people, different attitudes, and links.

–Summize (Twitter Search) – Search for your keywords, click a button and you have a custom RSS feed that you can read via your favorite feed reader, or put on your Google or Yahoo home page. A synopsis available on what’s happening.

–Tweetlater – one of the more versatile tools related to Twitter. A quick list of services include; emailing a digest of Tweets (like TweetBeep), Pre-scheduling tweets to keep your tweet stream flowing, pre-saving Tweets or common snippets of tweets for faster Tweeting, Automating direct messages to people that follow you, and managing multiple Twitter Ids at the same time.

–Twitscoop – extends what Twitter Search can do with both real-time searches of specific keywords as well as what the overall Twitterdom is talking about using (the Tweet Cloud). It also shows you the hot trends in the cloud.

–Twellow – This is another research tool that extends Twitter for business use, Twellow searches people’s profiles or what they are Tweeting about under specific, predefined categories, or a general search. Twellow will also show you geographically where people are Tweeting from in the US and Canada.

–Remember the Milk (RTM) – A real unique and cutting edge use of Twitter. RTM is a Task management service (set up reminders, tasks, things to do, etc.) for an individual or a small team or business. You can interact with Remember the Milk through Twitter. You simply follow the Twitter ID @rtm and then send it commands like retrieving your current tasks, adding new tasks, setting up automated reminders, even sending tasks to other Twitter users. This is a great adaptation of Twitter for business use.

Re-purpose existing content-

With taking care of customers, blogging, keeping up profiles on numerous social media sites, all while running a business, maintaining your online presence can quickly become overwhelming. Use tools like Twitterfeed to automatically Tweet content from an RSS feeds of your other blogs or sites, and Alterthingy, another tool that helps you aggregate and repost your content across the multiple sites, and profiles you need to maintain.

In addition, several blogs (WordPress for example) are building Twitter widgets to be able to display your tweets (and others) on your blog, thus keeping the blog actively changing and a target for better search engine ranking and more active visits.

There are any number of other ways you can use Twitter for Business and this note really only scratches the surface of what is possible. As the popularity of Twitter grows so will the unique and inventive ways of using this innovative tool.

If you’ve been paying attention at all as a small business owner, then you know how important it is to make social networking sites an integral part of your online marketing strategy. The one question you may still have is how to measure the success of your online marketing campaign. Given the current economic situation, you’re probably concerned with making every marketing dollar count, so how can you make sure you social networking efforts are worth the effort? Here are five easy keys to guide you.

1. Listen to Your Audience. Given the number of social networking sites on the internet, it’s completely unreasonable to utilize all of them. Start by finding out which social networking sites are most highly populated by your target audience, and then listen to what your potential customers are saying.

2. Involve Yourself. Once you’ve found your target audience on a few key social networking sites, start engaging your target audience. The first step is to listen to what they are saying about your company. If you find that what you hear isn’t positive, find a way to help the customers that aren’t happy with the products or services that you provide. Do what you can to make things right. If you find that your target audience only has positive things to say, continue to engage them, listening to what they have to say. You’ll find that their positive attitudes about your business will only grow.

3. Give Back. Social networking sites are great places to post information that will lead to positive customer attitudes about your product or service. Start a business blog, tweet on Twitter, put photos on your Flickr site, and create Podcasts. These types of activities will drive potential customers to your site, and if your site is optimized to make leads out of visitors, your sales will increase!

4. Use Your Tools Wisely. Making your social networking strategy mesh with your business strategy is critical, but that can’t happen until you’ve become familiar with how each social networking site works and how it can best benefit your business. How does each site connect you with clients and potential customers? Which sites specialize in the kind of customer contact that is most beneficial to your business? How can you use a variety of different social networking sites together to find potential customers and engage them? Answer these questions and watch your social media marketing strategy work for you.

5. Measure, measure, measure. You’re running a business, and the bottom line is determining the return on your investment in social media marketing. But the good news is that social media marketing has a significant impact on the inbound marketing techniques that you’re already using. For example, social networking can increase your search engine ranking, your inbound links, and the number of customers who subscribe to your RSS feed. You will notice that it increases the comments left on your blog, the number of times that your brand is mentioned in cyberspace, and first time visitors. In other words, social networking enhances the strategies you’re already using. You can use a good analytics package plus tracking codes and closed loop marketing to find out the number of visits and sales that occur as a result of your social media marketing strategy.

What you’ll find in the long run is that social media marketing can have a huge impact on the success of your business if you use it the right way. And the right way includes finding your target audience on a small number of appropriate social networking sites, listening to what they have to say, humbly and graciously joining the conversation they’re having about your industry in general and your company in particular, and righting any mistakes that you’ve made in the past. Find the right places to frequent and the right conversations to join and your efforts will pay off in the end!

Facebook advertising allows you to reach over 175,000,000 active users. As a business owner, I am sure that you will be thinking of how to make use of this huge network to market your brand. If you do not know how to tap on Facebook and advertise your business, you are at the right place. Now, let me show you the secrets to Facebook advertising.

Facebook advertising allows you to precisely target your audience based on demographics, such as age, location, interest, gender and more. This gives you an opportunity to get your advertising message across to the right group of people. If you are running a business-to-consumer business, Facebook will be a good advertising channel for you. For example, if you run a men’s shoe business and have a retail store, you can use Facebook social ads to target your audience by location and gender.

Other than social ads, you can also purchase banner ads and use flyers to target specific groups. You can purchase some of these flyers for as little as $5. This is definitely one very cost-effective marketing channel.

Next, you can create a fan page for your business. Fan page creation is free. You can upload photos, videos, post comments, write blog post, and write description of your business on the page. With a fan page, you can get your friends to become fans of your business. Moreover, fans can share the page with others by simply clicking on a button. This will start a viral epidemic that will increase the brand awareness of your business.

If you want to achieve success in Facebook advertising, you need to be social. The real secret in Facebook advertising lies in word of mouth. Get to know more friends first before promoting your product or service to them. A way to know more friends is to join other groups that are related to what you are offering. You should be able to find lots of like-minded people there. Then, make initial contact with them and get to know them on a personal level first before doing business. It is easier to do business with someone you know rather than with a stranger.

There is no place for a aggressive salesman in Facebook. If you are pushy and go around messaging everyone with your product or service pitch, you will not succeed. So make sure that you introduce your product or service in a non-pushy manner.

Whether you are building your Internet business from scratch or already have several sites up and running, ShoeMoney tools may be the program you need to take your business to the next level. With categories of tools to help you set your business action plan in motion, the real benefit to ShoeMoney is having all of the tools in one convenient location.

Jeremy Schoemaker is the creator of the Internet Marketing membership site and offers complete access to his program for $99.95 per month. Among the tools available on the site are the following categories: Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Link Building, Social Media, and Pay-Per-Click (PPC). On his website, Shoemaker provides video tutorials and guides to walk new members through the tools and how to use them.

Next time, we’ll review the PPC tools, but for this review let’s take a look at the other tools available through ShoeMoney.

What can ShoeMoney do for you?

You can have the most amazing website and product in the world, but without the right incoming traffic, it does not mean a thing. The idea behind ShoeMoney tools is to offer a way for online entrepreneurs to have access to all of the tools they need to maximize their site traffic and pull in targeted buyers. It is essentially an all-in-one Internet marketing tool box.

However, it makes sense that people new to ShoeMoney want to know the details of the product before signing up and paying the monthly fee. Schoemaker is offering a 3-Day Free Trial on the site for people who want to check it out before committing to a subscription. And below are some of the details of the program to help you make the most educated decision when it comes to ShoeMoney.

• SEO Tools

o This category includes the Backlink Analyzer and Find Backlinks tools, which allow you to analyze backlinks pointed to a specific domain as well as determine who is linking to a website and the keywords and links people are using. You can enter a keyword and get your hands on a top 10 Google list for the keyword and learn how each listing receives the backlinks.

o With the Outbound Links tool you can identify the sites being linked from a domain.

o Also part of the SEO Tools, the Domain MarketPlace helps to seek out available domains with active links, and the Keyword Density and Tracker tools provide a way to compare keywords and domains against competitors and keep track of how your personal keyword placement is working for you.

oThe SEO Tool, Text Optimizer, allows you to take a look at any given article text or a specific webpage and determine the SEO metrics.

• Link Building

o In addition to the three tools that are already listed in the SEO Section (Backlink Analyzer, Find Backlinks and Most Linked), this section offers the Related Blog Posts tool, helping you to identify blog posts that relate to your niche. You can past blog links in your trackbacks field and ping the blogs to increase your site’s traffic.

• Social Media

o Want to use Twitter but aren’t sure how? ShoeMoney helps with this social media tool to help you create your own Twitter account and utilize it to the benefit of your IM business.

While you may be able to find these tools in various places online, it is a great thing to have them all in one place. ShoeMoney takes a lot of the time and effort out of finding and learning the tools and gives you a step up in your IM action plan. Schoemaker’s site also offers access to a Forum to discuss the tools with other Internet marketing professionals, increasing the value and making ShoeMoney tools a great product to have in your online money-making arsenal or, rather, toolbox!

Twitter we’ve all heard about this phenom thingy. What is Twitter exactly, how do you use it properly and why the hell should you most certainly be using it in the real estate or any other industry on the planet?

For starters as of today…

Twitter is already the 36th most visited website in the world and climbing fast according to Alexa.com, I expect it to hit top 20 website by the end of the year or higher. That’s a pretty good reason to get yourself on there and benefit from the immense traffic on the site.

Next Twitter is estimated to have 100 million members possibly by the end of 2009.

Over HALF of all Twitter members are age 35 or older.

Over 51% of Twitters make over $60,000 a year.

Twitter is NOT MySpace or Facebook, or what I call the teeny bopper and booty call sites.

Twitters are mostly professionals, business owners or at least "wanna be" business owners.

63% of users have college and/or graduate school degrees or attended.

76% of Twitter users have wireless internet.

What this means to people in the real estate or any other industry? These Twitters are highly educated, high tech and affluent buyers that can and will need your services someday soon.

Next why Google will for sure buy Twitter this year I believe, because of the REAL TIME search capabilities.

What does that mean you may wonder?

Unlike Google where you type a keyword phrase in and on first page you usually get a lot of spam sites, articles, press releases, article directories and things not related to your search.

With Twitter if you put in say "real estate Austin Texas", you will instantly see who in the world at that EXACT time or at least in the last few hours has been talking about real estate in Austin Texas.

You then can join that conversation, send those people a direct message on Twitter, maybe refer them to someone, follow them on Twitter to build a relationship with them, answer there question or direct them to your blog or website for more info.

It’s basically like these people are raising their hands waiting for you to help them. This is why you should be spending hours on Twitter daily, yes hours no kidding.

This is the TRUE POWER of Twitter, that’s never been seen before in the marketing, sales and business world.

Twitter also helps you build your incoming links to your personal or business blog and website for free. The more followers you have and tweets you do, the more incoming back links you will generate to your sites. More links = more traffic = higher search rankings more the keywords your going for = more $$$ for YOU!

Wikipedia states: Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read other users’ updates known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length which are displayed on the user’s profile page and delivered to other users who have subscribed to them (known as followers).

So like a regular blog that you may have on ActiveRain, Word press or Blogger. You can build your personal brand in your niche, you can grow and show your expertise in your field, you can help educate and inform potential prospects on your Twitter profile.

These are just a few reasons why you must have and use daily a Twitter account, to stay competive or have the edge over others in your real estate or any other niche.

Rated as one of the top Austin Texas Notary service providers because of their Texas sized customer service, use of cutting edge technology and vast experience.

In terms of designing or developing a website or a blog, majority of the site owners appear to be grasping the concept pretty quick and end up doing a grand job over time. What majority of the webmasters find challenging, especially money making webmasters that are focused on making money from their sites, is the off-page optimization or the promotion part.

This is not a rocket science that more visitors you have or more people find your site, or more money you end up making. It is however extremely challenging to get that traffic as out of those hundreds of millions of pages on the web, it is less likely that anyone will find your website just after the initial launch. No need to get disappointed though as there are actually few ways of getting and driving traffic to your site. One is PPC or Pay Per Click which is expensive as you pay per click and depending on the niche you are targeting, it can actually be very costly way of advertising. Another method is through SEO (search engine optimization) or SEM (search engine marketing). There are few other ways of driving the visitors but on this article, we will focus on Link Building which is a major part of off-page SEO method.

If we consider the rationale of link building for a website, we can see that more backlinks a website has, higher the site ranks on search engines for its targeted terms. So let’s focus on getting those desired backlinks to your site in an easy and costless way. What you need to do is to set some time aside per day or per week and continue to work on building those links.

1. Directory Submission: Directory submission is known to be a proven method of link building for some time now. What you need to do is to find a lot of online link directories that accept free URL submissions and submit your site there. All the directories are usually organized by categories so you need to submit under the category that best suits your site and theme.

2. Article Submission: There are thousands of free article directories out there that accept free submissions. You can write an article related to the theme of your site and submit to few of the top article directories with your anchor text link in the resource box to get backlinks.

3. Social Bookmarking: How many social bookmarking sites out there as of this date is anyone’s guess but the point is that, you can bookmark your site or story pages on these social bookmarking sites for backlinks easily.

4. RSS Submission: If you have a blog or site with RSS Feed setup, then there are hundreds of RSS directories and ping sites where you can submit your feed for backlinks.

5. Social Media Pages: There are lot of social media sites, Squidoo and HubPages for example, that accept user generated content. You can publish your own articles on those sites and use the anchor text to link to your main site.

Idea is to stay focused as there is no overnight result that you will be expecting. SEO is a lengthy process and sometimes it can take months before you see some results. All good things come to those who are motivated and hard working.

What is the one thing we ALL need to make money on the Internet?

Traffic of course.

It doesnt matter what your business is or what niche you are trying to make money in, if you dont get traffic to your site, you wont make any money.

What is one of the most effective and fastest ways to get traffic to your website?

Using Social Marketing websites!

There are millions of people everyday using Social Marketing websites like MySpace, FaceBook, Twitter, Digg, Propeller etc. If you use these sites the correct way, you can get a huge amount of traffic to your site very quickly.

You might be asking… "So what is Social Marketing anyway?"

Well, Social Marketing is sites like I mentioned earlier that are controlled and powered by the users of the site and not the owners. If the users like a specific piece of content, they will reward it by "digging" it, "propping" it or in other words, sharing it with the other members of their community.

This is the main part behind Social Media sites… if you provide great quality content that is useful and entertaining to others, your readers will want to share your content with the rest of their community. This will not only reward you with more people checking out your content but it also creates valuable back-links to your site.

On the other hand if you dont provide great quality content, your readers wont want to share it with their community and you will be ignored, penalized or even worse… banned!

The secret to using Social Media sites the right way is to know how to set up your profiles properly and how to use each of these different sites the way that it is intended to be used.

So how do you learn how to do all of this properly? Well, you can…

-sign up to all these accounts
-go into these communities and spend time doing what the other members are doing
-once you understand the process, get involved and then eventually submit some of your own content

But be careful, you dont want to submit your own content too fast. You also dont want to submit too much of your own content.

Getting to know how each of these different Social Media sites operate can really be time consuming but their is shortcut you can take to save you many hours of your valuable time.

Some things you need to know for social trafficing

-how easy it is to set up profiles in MySpace, FaceBook and Twitter
-the proper way to set up your MySpace, FaceBook and Twitter pages
-how to get lots of traffic to your MySpace, Facebook pages
-best way to use Twitter to bring in traffic to your sites
-fast way to use Social Bookmarking sites to get back-links and quick traffic to your sites

Make Sure To Visit www.web20trafficexplosion.com To Finally start making money online! Imagine your success.

As you work on your blog, it’s good to read up on ways to improve your chances for success. There are so many things you can do to bring up your readership or generally improve your blog.

You can drive yourself crazy trying to figure it all out. You’ll even find strong opinions on what seem to be little things.

Full vs. Partial Feeds

This one can get quite a bit of debate. Full feeds are great for people who use feed readers and just want to get their blog reading done, but the blog itself may lose out on traffic from those readers.

Partial feeds mean that the first part of your posts must drag people into clicking to read the rest of the post. But some readers will unsubscribe if you require this of them.

There are some strong feelings on both sides of this. Some bloggers worry about their feeds being scraped if they use full feeds. Others want readers to come to their blogs to hopefully improve the number of comments and maybe even ad clicks.

Personally, I go for full feeds simply as the most functional option for readers. Anyone who is moved enough to comment still has to click through to the site. Properly added product recommendations will still make it through to the feed reader, so you can still get affiliate commissions.

Displaying Feed Counts

Having a lot of readers is a wonderful thing for a blog. It’s one of the things that makes blogging worthwhile. Some bloggers display their feed counts, while others don’t.

And of course some fake the numbers so that they look popular. All too easy to do and generally too easily discovered.

I’ve seen general agreement that if you have fewer than 100 subscribers to your feed, you may as well forget about displaying the count. You aren’t getting the social proof that you should want from this. Some will say to wait for even higher numbers, but that’s up to the individual blogger.

Even some sites with a huge number of subscribers will prefer to not show numbers.

Don’t bother faking counts, as being caught out greatly damages your reputation. Instead, think about why it is you want your count to show.

In many cases, it is for that social proof that a lot of people are subscribing to your site. Feed subscriptions don’t tell the whole story, but it’s a number that is easily made public.

Just keep in mind that there are other ways for people to tell how much traffic your blog is getting. The number of comments is a good clue. A high subscriber count displayed with few comments (assuming comments are turned on) can indicate a problem.

Using the Right Social Media Sites

Social media websites have proven to be an amazing way to get the word out about individual blog posts. But if you try to sign up and participate in them all, you’re going to drive yourself crazy and possibly be counted as a spammer if you do nothing more than self-promote.

I’ll be perfectly clear. Social media can make a huge difference to your blog and the traffic you get. But overdoing it is not the answer.

Pick one or two to start with, and participate on them. Promote your own things occasionally, but your main focus should be on being a good member. You’re looking to build a solid reputation and some trust. Network with people doing well on those sites as well as with others just starting out. Get a real feel for what goes over well.

Don’t give yourself too hard a time about learning it all right away. There’s a lot to figure out and taking your time to understand what you’re trying to accomplish will do more than plunging blindly in.

While any of these can make a difference in how your site grows, they really aren’t that likely to make or break you. Even your own use of social sites, which can drive serious traffic at times, can matter far less than if your readers use them. Give yourself time and work the way that is best and most productive for you.

Today one of the most effective ways to build your Internet business is to use social media. Social media is where you use the Internet tools available to you to electronically to share information with people. Let’s take a little closer look at exactly what social media is and how you can benefit from it.

One of the key things online today is the ability for people to interact with each other. This is one of the most important advancements in Internet marketing!

What social media does is take what was once an impersonal marketing tool such as a website, and now make it more interactive in various ways. One of the most common ways that is done is blogging.

Blogging allows you to share your thoughts and mix in products that you sell, but blogging is really a small part of what social media really is.

Not long ago the phrase Web 2.0 was created. This really is what social media is today because it allows you to get your visitors involved in the process of your blog and your Internet marketing business.

Social media even extends beyond that, however because of the many different types of communities where people can interact as well. Two the most famous social networking communities are My Space and Facebook.

Other forms of social media that you might be aware of include YouTube where you can watch videos. Today Twitter is extremely popular and is a form of blogging and social networking tied up in one.

The key point we want to make about social media is how you can use it to build your Internet marketing business. You can use it to enhance your credibility and to brand your business as well.

Social directories allow you to create back links to your blog as well as search engine bait to search engine optimization. This is an extremely important skill and has proven to be an effective way to quickly get on page 1 for targeted keyword phrases.

For example, targeting longer key word phrases is one way to get on Google in 24 hours or less. The key is that you are using social bookmarking and social directories to create search engine bait. This is just one example of how traffic can be created using this social media tool.

Hopefully you have enjoyed this article on social media. It is well worth your time to become comfortable using some of the various tools available to you to increase your traffic and make more money with your Internet business.

This session featured Michael Gray of Atlas Web Service, Craig Greenfield of Performics, and my buddy, Joanna Lord of TheOnlineBeat. The panel shared many tools and opinions on how to improve your Twitter usage to meet your goals.

Michael started off by covering how search marketers can benefit from Twitter. He emphasized that there is no right or wrong way per se to do Twitter – do what makes sense for you!

How do you grow followers?
*Tweet interesting things – be insightful, humorous, useful.
*Tweet interesting links to other people and other sites – don’t just be self-serving.
*Have interaction in your community – be less robotic – be human!
Michael suggests you should be helpful, friendly and aggressive. Answer questions and talk to others in your vertical as well. If you’re not the best resource, send someone to another person who is – that helps build your standing in the community. Retweet others – they love you for it!

Dig through other peoples’ follower list to find people to follow. Build a master list of A, B and C level people and mine their followers! As Michael says, later, rinse, repeat – do this often to find new people to follow.

How can you interact and still be productive?
*For high volume accounts, focus on the @ messages and answer them.
*Schedule tweets when possible.
*Use surveys, ask questions, have polls. Use contests or giveaways.
*Automate your account where possible.
What about the Retweet?
*Keep tweet direct and to the point.
*Ask for retweets – it’s ok!
*eave 20-25 characters free in the tweet.
*Thank retweeters.
*Use your own URL shortener

Michael says that fakers and ghost tweeters can be ill-received.
Some tools include:
*Tweetdeck: Categorize and group tweets.
*Twittermail: Send email to tweet and schedule.
*Twitterhawk: Pay for tweets – you can set up responses automatically and get alerts. Direct it on how to respond.

*Use friend feeders and retweeters.
*Tweet hijacking – replacing the url to your link instead! (Oooh bad!!)
*Automate following – you can get banned for this though. Be careful.

Joanna said that Twitter is very valuable because you can reach all demographics and international audiences.
Joanna recommended these tools for Twitter:
Automation Tools
Find people to follow:
*wefollow.com
*mrtweet.com
*chirpio.com
*#followfriday
Auto-follow/unfollow/DM:
*tweetlater.com
*futuretweets.com
*tweetspinner.com

Monitoring Tools
Researching conversations:
*search.twitter.com
*hash tag trending
*tweetbeep.com
Track and Quantify:
*tweetmeme.com (has a retweet button you can add to your blog)
*backtweets.com
*twitt(url)ly.com

Marketer-Friendly Tools
*Twibs: business directory
*Twitterfeed: link it all up
*Grouptweet: tweet as a team
*CoTweet: group tweets as one user
*Twitterhawk: local marketing tool
*Hootsuite: full service for marketers
Joanna encourages checking out the tools before you commit to them. Use tools to streamline efforts – not to be a spammer or scammer!

Craig covered how the consumer is really in control but how to leverage that with Twitter and such. Consumers can influence brand perception online through Twitter, so marketers should understand that process. Craig encourages everyone to understand how your brand is perceived in the search results (SERPs).

How can brands use Twitter to boost search rankings and improve online reputation? Craig claims that being retweeted can help organic search rank. (Author’s Note: Not really true per se. Links retweeted in Twitter are nofollow – therefore they offer little to no direct benefit to improve search rankings. They can, however, encourage others to virally link to you outside of Twitter – perhaps from a blog, website, etc.)

Twitter does however, Craig says, allow you to better control your brand online and to monitor your brand online – what are people saying about you? Twitter also allows you a mechanism to respond to customer concerns and respond to them quickly. He referenced Comcast as an example of a company that is using Twitter to respond on a customer service level.

Tips from Craig:
*repurpose your brand content on Twitter
*use listening tools to hear what customers are saying
*create an outreach strategy
*engage with your supporters
*integrate your search and Twitter strategies

With YouTube being the No 3 traffic site in the world there’s no wonder everybody wants to throw up a video in the hope of pulling some traffic to their website. Get it right and you’ll also be able to upload to MySpace and Facebook, the 5th and 7th ranked sites, and you could be on a bonanza of free traffic back to your main business site.

Once considered the playground for mindless youth, savvy internet marketers now see YouTube, Myspace and Facebook as a means of capturing cash spending consumers and enticing them to their own product or service websites. Video marketing is now considered the future of online marketing.

With this in mind it is imperitive that the videos you do place on these sites are a traffic pulling masterpiece.

Initially your video should only be approx 2 minutes. Keeping the attention of a Youtube, Myspace or Facebook viewer is not easy. Start small and build rapport. Then start extending your viewing time once viewers believe you have something to say that’s worthwhile.

Here’s 5 steps to make a video that creates a ton of interest:

1. Who Am I

This section should be about 10 seconds. Give viewers your name and where you are from

2. Who You Are Talking To And What About

Acknowledge the group you are talking eg YouTube and what you are going to be talking about today eg How to build website traffic etc. This section should be about 10 sec

3. Description

Describe your topic in about 30 secs. Give the viewers enough so as to make them seek more from you.

4. Posture

This is the most important section. This is where you must make an impact. Viewers need to see a confident presenter. You need to be able to demonstrate value that you and your team will bring to the relationship if formed with the viewer. The viewer must see the benefits of joining you over the opposition. This section runs for approx 1 minute.

5. Call To Action

Tell your viewers to click on a link or something similar. Offer a bonus of something free if they do it now. Perhaps get them to subscribe to your YouTube channel so you can send them more of your content packed videos. This section lasts about 10 seconds.

Put these steps into place and you’ll not only keep your viewers attention but you’ll soon be pulling a ton of free traffic back to your website.

With over 500 million users on these sites, grabbing a very small percentage of viewers will be extremely lucrative for your business.

Couple this with some paid marketing like solo ads, banners or traffic exchanges and you’ll have a ton of traffic pouring into your main website.

Video marketing is the future and when done right could become your biggest free traffic pulling medium. Take time to finesse your technique and you’ll be reaping the rewards for years to come.

Finally make sure you are using good equipment. A webcam is the easiest and most cost efficient way to get started. Get a model that has auto focus and light adjustment built in. It’ll give your videos a more professional look.

Happy videoing and happy business building.

Stumble Upon is a social media website that allows you to tag your personal and professional interests so you can filter the web for sites based on your particular interests when you surf for content. Rather than searching for specific terms like you would on Google, on Stumble Upon you can surf through sites that are more broadly related to your areas of interest. You can then tag the websites you find with a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down.”

Stumble Upon also works like a social bookmarking site because you can tag the websites you like and share them with other users. To get started with Stumble Upon, add your own website along with a short description and keyword tags so it can be “stumbled” when other users find it.

Stumble Upon provides a powerful way for you to drive massive amounts of traffic to your website. You can get your website viewed by people all over the world if it gets “stumbled.” Stumble Upon can dramatically improve your online presence because it builds backlinks created by users, helps you to establish a reader base for your content, and gives your site exposure very quickly. Here are 10 tips that will help you bring a substantial amount of traffic to your site.

1. Websites that tend to get the most traffic from Stumble Upon are Web 2.0 websites, video websites, and humor websites. Try to include humor and videos into your website content if you want to have a greater chance of success in driving traffic and retaining readers from Stumble Upon.

2. Good site design will make you or break you. Visitors tend to only stay for a short time and look around so if your site design is less than attractive, you won’t see many return visitors or visitors who stay for very long. Visual appeal is essential.

3. Make sure it’s obvious and easy for site visitors to subscribe to your blog via RSS feed or sign up for your newsletter. This will allow you to get new readers who in turn become potential customers and repeat visitors.

4. Brand image is essential to your success on Stumble Upon. If you want people to continually return to your site and have it be imprinted in their minds, you need to make sure your URL is easy to remember and that your brand image is crisp and memorable.

5. Offer tools and materials on your site that cannot be accessed elsewhere to attract return visits.

6. Make sure that your website provides plenty of compelling content. The more the better because then visitors have a reason to return and read the materials that they could not finish the first time around.

7. If you have a blog, make sure people can subscribe via email because not everyone reads blogs through a reader. That way you can cater to different types of site visitors.

8. After one of your articles or blog posts has been stumbled, make sure to have plenty of great content ready to provide to your site visitors because they are going to have high expectations. You will probably have the most success if you use articles that are similar to the one that got a lot of stumbles.

9. Everyone loves to win free stuff so make sure to hold a contest or giveaway after a spike in traffic. This will help you attract regular readers.

10. You are only allowed five tags on your articles in Stumble Upon so try to make them as general as possible. This will in turn mean you get more eyeballs on your content.

Keep these tips in mind when using Stumble Upon to increase traffic to your site. Stumble Upon is used by a broad demographic of people and is a very effective way to get your content seen and read. By following these tips, you will be able to attract visitors to your site who will in turn become regulars.

If you hear of the word bookmark, you associate it with something that helps you remember a page in a book, so you can come back to read it again at a later time. In the case of websites and web pages on the internet, social bookmarking is the practice of saving web pages, in a way tagging them, so you can view and read them again. When you bookmark a page that is constantly updated, like a news page, each time you return to view it, there is something new for you to see.

Are there any advantages to social bookmarking?

The answer is yes! As said before, internet users benefit from social bookmarking as it allows them to come back to sites that they like, or pages that have very useful and relevant content. Also, according to sources, if a site is constructed well, and has very interesting and expertly written content, there is a higher probability that it will be bookmarked.

Think about it. Would you be coming back to a site if it didn’t have anything important to say? Such is the motivational factor that drives web surfers to stay within a site, and possibly even purchase items and recommend it to others.

The more times a site is bookmarked, the better it is for Search Engine Optimization. Search engine bots or crawlers are able to index more sites through this. In a way, the number of social bookmarks made can directly affect the page popularity and page rank.

In terms of the frequency of the returns of visitors to your site, it will be ideal if they bookmark your site by subscribing to web feeds. In this way, whenever you make changes or updates, your former visitors will be sure to come back.

Is this what RSS feeds are about?

RSS feeds are only one of the many types of web feeds available. Users who have aggregator programs on their computer are reminded or alerted every time an update is made on any of the sites they bookmarked or have subscribed to web feeds. RSS feeds are a common feature on blogs about political issues, news websites, online magazines, and more. Other examples of methods of social bookmarking through web feeds are Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit, and more.

How can your website benefit from social bookmarking?

Can you visualize your site with hundreds to thousands of visitors per day, and all of them coming back regularly to check out what’s new? You will soon find that the conversion rate of your site visitors to product buyers will be high, and who wouldn’t want that? With this method of social bookmarking, you can improve your site’s page ranking, since more bookmarks of your site will be made by users.

If nothing else, 2008 was the year that social media began to grow without bounds. Between social networking, social bookmarking, and blogging as well as other tactics, social media saw an explosion in participation and interest in 2008. Facebook alone boasted a 116% increase in traffic over 2007.

But the question still remains-how does social media affect SEO, and futhermore, which tactics are best for SEO? This past summer, Search Mojo ran a test to find out exactly which tactics might improve rankings.

Methodology: While it is difficult to create a purely scientific study involving social media and SEO (there are too many varying factors that we cannot control, such as algorithm changes), we did attempt to make our study as scientific as possible. We created two identical websites about a topic, but one applied SEO best practices such as high keyword density in content and building inbound links and the other site ONLY used social media tactics. The goal was to measure how social media tactics stack up to traditional SEO tactics when optimizing a website.
Findings

While we found that social media tactics can be helpful to SEO, certain tactics were certainly more helpful than others. Here’s a synopsis of our findings.

Social networks, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, MySpace and others proved ineffective for SEO, primarily because the links in many of the social networks are marked "nofollow." While social networks may be a great way to get the word out about your website to others, social networks did not impact search engine rankings.

Blog comments mostly proved ineffective for SEO for the same reason as social networks too many blog owners seem to mark comments as "nofollow." Also, it appears that blog comments that are "dofollow" may have less impact than links from blogs contained within the blog post content itself.

Links from Blog Post Content
Links contained within blog post content tended to have a greater degree of importance than those contained within the comments section of a post. We consider links from blog post content semi-effective.

Why semi-effective? While the links contained within blog posts themselves had some value over the links contained within the comments section, we did not that links in blog posts had greater value than generic links built in directories or other locations. In other words, a link on a directory versus a link in a blog post with the same PageRank seems to yield just as an effective SEO result. When concentrating efforts on link building for SEO, getting a link in a blog post may drive more traffic, but it will take much longer to build enough quantity of blog post links than to build links in directories and the like.

In our estimation, links from blog posts should be a goal more for the PR function in a company than the SEO team for this reason.

Links from Squidoo and HubPages:Overall, we found that links from a Squidoo Lens or HubPage drove traffic, but we found that they were ineffective for purely SEO purposes. The main problem when creating a Squidoo Lens or HubPage for link purposes is that these newly created pages and their associated links can only be found once the search engine bots can find them. And since Squidoo and HubPages do not have links to each page per se (unless you are a very popular page), then you also have to go through the effort of building at least one link pointing in to your Lens or HubPage so the bots can find it!

Creating Your Own Blog:Blogs provide a constant flow of new content on a website, increasing a site’s opportunities for viral linking. We found that having a blog on your domain is highly effective for SEO purposes and also can drive more traffic overall to your website. Blog posts can also be repurposed as other digital assets, such as articles for online article marketing another highly effective SEO tactic.

So should you spend time participating in social media tactics? Social media still has its place in your overall marketing program. HOWEVER, we cannot prove that the benefits to purely search rankings outweigh the investment in social media (in manhours, cost, etc.).

If SEO is your goal, many social media tactics will not be helpful. But because most companies are performing SEO with the end goal of driving more website traffic, social media tactics can achieve the same result through different means.

We know that search marketing often provides high conversion and ROI, but how effective is social media? The case for conversion and ROI for social media remains to be seen and the debates on it rage on.

With social media being the new phenomenon online today it would be ludicrous for any internet marketer to ignore it when it comes to formulating a strategy for an internet marketing campaign. As with most marketing promotions your success or failure is usually determined by your approach. The most important part of a successful socialization plan when it comes to MySpace and Facebook, for example, is the content on your profile page.

Content drives traffic which drives sales when it comes to your Blog as well as your social media profile page. The richer and more varied the content the more people it will attract and the faster word will spread about your page and what it has to offer. Try to make it entertaining in terms of what’s available for visitors to interact with and adding a touch of humor helps because everyone likes to laugh.

For interactivity you could have your favorite music highlighted for them to click on and sample. You could add a music video or two as well as some comedy clips or maybe implement a joke of the day feature. One important factor not to ignore is your own personal story. The objective of these sites, after all, is to meet and get to know people, and most everyone likes reading or hearing about someone else’s life experience.

This doesn’t mean you have to reveal all of the sordid details but try to convey your likes and dislikes in your own style. Don’t try to be someone you’re not. People want to get to know the real you. Also try to make your profile informative. Everyone has an expertise in some area, so share this knowledge with your guests and before you know it you’ll have more online friends than you know what to do with.

If you keep giving people what they want they’ll keep coming back for more and the best way to do this is to write about what you know and what you are comfortable with. Pictures are also a great way to attract visitors. You can demonstrate some of your interests through photographs of some of your favorite activities. Pictures also add a more personal element to the page giving the viewer a better chance to get to know you and appreciate what you do.

If you’re an avid reader, for example, you could possibly start a book of the month feature where you discuss or critique a particular book you may be reading. You could ask visitors, who are also readers, to leave comments and maybe start a book of the month club. With any relationship, be it online or in your day-to-day life, the important thing is to maintain contact. On any of these social media websites this means visiting on a regular basis to let people know what’s happening in your life. It also means updating your profile page on a regular basis.

Any Internet Marketer who can follow these simple steps should enjoy great success in the new Web 2.0 or Social Media Market not only professionally but also personally, and always remember the old adage "Content is King."

Squidoo is a great tool for affiliate marketers. So what exactly is Squidoo? It is a social networking platform which allows anyone with a Squidoo account to create pages (also known as lens), and talk about any topic that they like. Google loves Squidoo lens. If you have a well written lens, it may rank high on Google, driving tons of targeted traffic to your website.

Now that you know what Squidoo is, you may ask how to start using Squidoo in affiliate marketing? The trick here is to create lens with content about the topic of your affiliate product, and making sure it ranks on first page of Google for important phrases and keywords related to the affiliate product that you are promoting.

For example, if you are promoting an e-book on losing weight, you may wish to create lens and share some tips on losing weight effectively. You will insert keywords such as "how to lose weight" and "how to lose love handles" in your lens so that your lens will be relevant to Google when someone types in "how to lose weight" in the search box. This will make Google returning your lens as a relevant result on the first page of the search result page. With this, you will be able to drive tons of targeted traffic to your lens. Then with your lens, you can entice them to click on your affiliate links and bring them to your merchant’s sales page.

So in order to start using Squidoo to promote affiliate products, you need to register a free account with them. During registration, you will be asked to name your lens. It is very important for you to include the keyword in your lens’s URL so as to get a good ranking on search engines. Then, you will need to create content for your lens. At this point, be sure to have your content ready. Also, it will be good if you can add in some pictures in your lens as readers love to see pictures.

Once you have your content ready, it is time to place affiliate links within the content of your lens. It is important to note that you need to entice your lens reader to click on your links. So, adding call-to-action statement such as "Click here to find out more" will help to improve your click-through-rate from your lens to your merchant’s sales page.

Once you think that your lens is ready, click on the Publish button at the top right hand corner and your lens will be live on the Internet. You can type in the unique URL of your lens in your browser to view it.

Now that your lens is live on the Internet, you can now start to drive traffic to your lens. Do take note that organic search engine traffic will take time to come in. So, use other methods such as article marketing, pay-per-click, social book marking and forum marketing to drive traffic to it first.

Squidoo is definitely a great tool for affiliate marketers, especially if you wish to test a particular product or market. With Squidoo, you do not need to have any website to promote an affiliate product. This makes it ideal for you to test out products, and only create websites and set up auto-respondents once you see that the product starts to sell.

Why Brand in social media?

You probably have asked this question before.

Or maybe twice.

I know I did several years ago-until the “light went on” and I discovered some things that proved to be worth millions in business.

But just what IS branding in social media and how do you participate in it?

Branding is a marketing technique, strategy, method, or action that has the massive potential to elevate your online and social media business to the top. It involves helping your customers every time they think of you to form a recognizable association -mental , emotional, or other–with you.

What can you do to make that happen?

Link your business with a powerful and unique design, logo, slogan, and/or color and observe the positive results and imaging that starts to take place in people’s minds.

It is critical that you take the brnading efforts to a new level and understand that there are 3 things that people look for in branding:

1) What they are FEELING.

Branding is all about emotion and feelings when it comes down to it. Either it feels RIGHT, or it does not. And if it does not, then your brand will be extinct before too long.

2) What people are SEEING on the video screen in their mind.

What picture does the prospect SEE in their mind when they think of your brand? What emotions does that elicit? Is it a picture that you want them to see?

3) What are they EXPECTING.

What is the prospect EXPECTING to happen or experience with your brand? This is critical because your brand must be consistent as well as credible.

Brands create a feeling of recognition, remembrance, and familiarity.

If customers have seen your logo or meme, insignia, or company name, they are more likely to continue to consistently select your product or service. Also, they are more apt to refer and suggest them to others. Referrals through word of mouth can be an extremely powerful form of advertising and it can build your brand and accelerate it.

A brand helps possible customers remember your business as well as the emotions surrounding it. (Nike). People may know little about your life and business philosophy or reputation. However, if they can recognize your brand, the chances are greater that they will do business with you.

Branding creates memory in the mind of the public. we call it “Memory magnet.” Your brand must draw people towards you and your message and product every time they think of it.

When the public remembers your brand and familiarizes themselves and others with it, they will come back. Customers are more likely to remain devoted to your business and are apt to buy further products or services from you based on the brand of the initial product with which they had success.

This called building a book of business you can count on.

People are willing to pay more for products or services that they highly regard. This means that customers are likely to pass up cheaper prices with competitors if your brand has made a positive impression on them. If clients believe in your product, they will pay for it.

That is why you need to brand yourself as the “Premier Provider” in your niche and market, so you can charge what your brand is really worth.

When you have distinguished and set yourself and your business apart through branding, the marketing has the capability of becoming so profound, that little else is necessary. Developing your brand takes time and effort, but after it has been solidified, and after customers have had the chance to identify with it, your sales can increase naturally. You won’t have to spend as much time planning marketing strategies to attract the public in your social media marketing strategies

Social media sites are all the rage at the moment, there are people all over the world using them and over the next decade or so that figure is set to rise further and further. In some ways people have literally become obsessed with social networking sites that they have actually forgot about anything and everything else in the world.

People are literally using these sites whenever they can; even when people are going on holiday they stop to use the computers in the airport to check their profiles. With the rise of mobile web access people are constantly being updated with their friends on the move. But how bad are social networking sites really affecting some industries? Let us take a quick look.

Education
Most of the homework and course work people get these days will have to be completed on the computer. But people are becoming less and less interested in their work, because all they can think about whilst they are on the computer is checking their social profiles to see if they have received a message, thus making them fail courses.

Work
If people work in an office with internet access, then once again they are going to become hugely distracted by constantly checking on their profiles. This is definitely a bad thing to do as it will affect your workload and probably make you get the sack.

Lifestyle
Going swimming, meeting friends or popping up town was something that everyone used to love to do, nowadays people want to get home or bring their mobile phones with them so they can constantly keep checking their profiles.

Driving
When people finish work or are out somewhere, they jump into their cars and rush to get home, just so they can again check their profiles. What they are doing is breaking the law by driving fast and putting their own lives at risk.

Holidays
People no longer relax whilst they go on holidays, holidays used to be a time for getting over the stresses of the year and just having a well deserved break, but now more and more people are taking time out of their holiday to update their statuses and online picture albums.

Although social networking sites are great fun, there is a fine line between that and obsession. The whole world has become so obsessed with checking people’s pictures and profiles that they are not having time to actually spend with their families or friends.

If you want to buy New Cars, Buy a Honda and Buy a Ford

One of the interesting dynamics that make social media a potential boon to marketing is that many social networks are connecting across multiple sites.

I recently came across a social media site that used a spidering technique to find you (and your friends) at other social media sites and help you link across networks.

What this dynamic does is provide the opportunity to develop a network that is not only site specific, but integrated to include multiple sites. This can help you maximize the total number of friends in the total number of networks you’re a part of.

This makes it less difficult to discover if a friend is involved in other social media sites and offers opportunity to expand your own network through multiplied opportunities to connect with others.

Social media is providing both an extensive personal experience as well as offering marketing potential. On a personal level you can share your thoughts in blog form, you can share your latest photography. Users are downloading originally designed audio and they are challenging all of us to share in personal opinion.

While separate blogs and forum boards exist, and are still going strong, the role of social media is that of a convenience store as compared to a specialty shop. In one location you have so many options at self-expression and connection that it can make other forms of online media seem a little dull in comparison.

In some cases I suppose a social media site can seem a little indulgent, but it can literally mean thousands of individuals receiving impressions about you and your business. In most cases social media is not reserved simply for personal thought conveyance. Businesses will routinely use it to share contemporary ideas and encourage new connection.

As a new generation finds less and less in common with traditional forms of media they are also finding social networking to be a meaningful alternative to many other sources previous generations found important.

For instance this new generation is less inclined to identify with traditional radio or newsprint. If they want information they will access it online. They won’t watch evening news they will download video when they want – online. When they want music they are more inclined to listen on a social media site or a place like Pandora. If they really like a song they will purchase it online for their mp3 player.

It’s not even that this generation hates these more traditional forms of media – they just don’t get the lack of immediate gratification in the on demand world they live in. It simply doesn’t fit their life.

That being said, a social media network allows them to access entertaining videos posted by members. They can preview songs they may like, but never hear on traditional radio, and they can find information often written by their favorite musician or actor.

This is the world this generation lives in, and if you are a web-based entrepreneur this is the world in which you will best reach them. That may seem like an overstatement, but it’s true. This culture is all about connection and if you aren’t willing to take your message to them you will not likely be heard. This is the power of social media.

Social media is social. Social, an adjective that one definition gives as pertaining to, devoted to, or characterized by friendly companionship or relations: a social club. That’s what social network sites are – social clubs. Where people with the same interests get together and learn, teach, grow, and bond.

Hopefully you were taught social etiquette while you were growing up. You remember, elbows off the table, shake hands when you meet someone, send thank you notes, say please and thank you. Just as there are proper ways to behave in the world, there are proper ways to behave online. Here are a few ways to make your online experience a pleasure for everyone else.

Be Nice

This is the big one. Everything after this is icing on the cake. There is nothing wrong with being nice; it doesn’t mean that you’re weak. Making enemies on social sites gets you nowhere, so drop your hatred and e-rants. It’s okay to have an opinion, even an extremely opposite opinion from everyone else. What’s not okay is to call other people names. If you’re trying to make a persuasive argument, use persuasive language and prove your point. It doesn’t help your cause to call someone an idiot. And, if you use the Internet to rant and rave, people eventually tune you out.

Just like in real life and business, we get what we want by knowing people, networking and building quality relationships. It’s the same for online relationships. And, as the old saying goes, "you can catch more flies with honey…"

You should value relationships over transactions. Gaining links from commenting on blogs should not be your main objective. Blog comments are just that – you are commenting to join the conversation. And you are joining the conversation to build a relationship.

Be Accountable

Just because you sit at your computer, anonymous, doesn’t mean you are not accountable for your actions and words. Don’t believe that there are no rules to social media. Don’t believe that you can do or say whatever you want without consequences just because you can hide behind your computer. People are smart and if you are a shameless, self-promoting jerk, they’ll figure it out and you’ll be done. By being accountable for your words, people will respect you, whether they agree with you or not.

Be Respectful of the Community

You are there to add value to the community you join, not to push your agenda and make sales pitches. The thing that will bring you relationships is making sure that when you add to the community, it’s with quality content. You may want to sit back and just listen for a while to learn about a community you’ve joined instead of just jumping in, maybe being ineffective and wasting everyone’s time. Before you submit anything to a social site, ask yourself if it will add value to the community. If not, don’t.

If you are commenting on someone else’s blog, don’t just promote yourself. If you have a post that refers to that conversation, then it’s okay to post that link in your comment. However, if you do it too often, you’ll get ignored or thought of as just a spammer.

Be a Listener

Yeah, sure, you think you know everything, but, if you listen to what others are saying, you might learn something. Listen to people that comment on your blog and see if you can understand where they are coming from. Your first reaction does not need to be a rant telling them how wrong they are.

Be a Giver

You know this one – you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. This saying applies to online relationships as well. If you want attention, you have to be willing to give it first. Do the people who burst onto your site or group and think that they should be at the top immediately annoy you? And how about the ones that constantly ask for your help by commenting on their blogs or always push their content on you. We all try to avoid "users." Don’t be like them – you have to earn respect by giving more than you receive and by making sure that what you give is useful.

Remember to link to posts that you find interesting or informative. Chances are that if you’ve found it interesting and related to your group, someone else will too. This is a great way to get involved in social networking sites.

Be Nice

I know, this was the first suggestion, but it’s important so it bears repeating. You can’t get away from it, The Golden Rule concept can be found in cultures and religions all over the world. That’s probably why it’s the "golden" rule. And if we all lived by it, in real life as well as online, we’d all be a little better off.

I am sure most of you have heard of blogs also commonly known as weblogs. These are personal or business Internet journals where owners can blog about a specific niche or on their own life and on goings. Blogs have taken the Internet by storm. A blog is updated daily in a personal tone and will keep the visitor entertained by reading "bloggers" reviews and opinions on their surroundings . Different bloggers write about different themes, and events. There is no training necessary just an interest in writing about what you love. Blogs are a way for Internet users to find out about what their searching for and understand other peoples views and aspects of the particular subject.

Some blogs are just made by people who ramble on about their daily on goings to their family and friends, while other blogs take on a deeper meaning and express serious facts and opinions. Blogs can be used in many ways from promoting products, providing valuable information, giving people tutorials, making people aware of a certain thing, and some people blog just to make money.

A lot of blogs become big and are a valuable site to the internet supplying Internet users with information on many topics, keeping surfers up to date. The first blog which I also said to have been the first website was made in 1992, although it was the late nineties when they began to take of. They gained in popularity after 2000. There are millions of blogs on the Internet today covering all aspects of life. The reason more and more are popping up is thanks to the easier to use technology allowing interested writers to set up a blog in no time and speak their feeling to the world. Everyone is giving blogging a shot. Blogs are been written by politicians, novelists, musicians, sports figures and many more notable figures.

Blogs are a great source of income for many webmasters and they are becoming more widespread. Blogs have become a major main source of income for a lot of online workers. A lot of Internet users want to hear other peoples opinions and are willing to read what you have to say. So blogging about something you enjoy is easy and with the adding of advertisements on your blog it can generate a nice monthly income.

Of course blogs which are successful need to be updated on a daily basis to keep your readers informed and up to date on the happenings in the world. If you can find a niche that you enjoy and write about it. You can build a good blog and fan base and maybe earn yourself some extra money in the process.

Everyone is talking about Twitter.

Some of us are using Twitter.

Does anyone know why?

OK I admit it – I signed up for Twitter and didn’t really know why…. but I am slowly beginning to see the value of it.

Facebook and MySpace have experienced massive growth over the last few years and are widely known as effective "friend management" tools. To be frank, email has become a pain for a lot of personal and commercial users. The amount of spam received means that you can spend valuable time every day just sorting through and deleting emails that are trying to sell you watches, pills and poker.

If you elect to invest in an elaborate spam filter then the chances are you still continue to receive some spam. It’s a bit like getting a flu jab – you still get flu but your arm doesn’t.

On the other side of the coin the filter is "so good" you don’t get legitimate email that was intended for you. I have personally received email from the person sitting in the office down the corridor marked as SPAM.

Facebook and MySpace eliminate this communication nightmare. The concept is simple. I invite you as a friend. You say yes. You get my messages. If we decide we don’t want to be friends we don’t get each other’s messages.

Facebook has presented great advertising opportunities. Facebook knows your age and habits (well some of them, so don’t panic) so it knows what sort of adverts to throw up on the page you are looking at. This can be tedious.

Facebook is viewed by some as a little too revealing. I have people who have asked me to be friends on Facebook who blank me when I see them in the veg aisle in the Co-Op. If I let you be my friend you can, at your leisure, see every picture that I have posted of me on holiday, at a party, wedding reception – anywhere. I find this all a bit too much and a little disturbing. If I came home and found someone in my living room that I vaguely knew who had spread out all of my photo albums on the floor and was poring over them I don’t think I would find it acceptable if they said "…but I thought we were friends."

Twitter is a de-cluttered version of Facebook and MySpace without all the intrusive bits. The messages on Twitter or "tweets" are very short (160 characters including spaces) as they are designed to be received as SMS text messages.

You can follow someone on Twitter or be a follower. If you want to follow celebrities then it’s easy to follow someone like Jimmy Carr and receive all their tweets. However, this does have commercial applications also. Using Twitter I can keep clients who choose to follow me up to date with changes in the marketplace.

I see my Twitter followers as my own mini "swarm" that I intend to grow. My followers will belong to other swarms and so these swarms will be exposed to my Tweets. This means I can potentially reach a huge marketplace of people who I have never rubbed shoulders with.
