Have you ever used the terms hot cocoa and hot chocolate interchangeably? If so you are not alone. However, there is a distinctive difference in the two and one may just be healthy for you to sip on. So which is better for you and what is the reasoning for it?

Hot cocoa is actually healthier for you than hot chocolate because of what it is made from. Hot cocoa is made from raw cocoa powder, which is simply chocolate that has been pressed to remove the fat of the cocoa butter. Hot chocolate on the other hand is made from chocolate bars melted into a cream or ground into a powder.

The key is minimizing the sugar and fat content. If you can do this, it is possible to make healthy hot chocolate from scratch. But it can be difficult finding healthy hot chocolate on the market for this very reason.

More and more people are beginning to discover the nutritional benefits of cocoa beans and hot cocoa, especially when you make it at home. It has been found that the flavonols in chocolate are more powerful than many vitamins are, especially for cardiovascular health and anti aging. This does not mean that pigging out on chocolate will benefit you, but including sweets and chocolate to your diet a few times a month can actually extend your life.

If you want to make your own health hot cocoa, make sure to get pure cocoa powder. Anything else is just a joke and will not provide you with the nutritional benefits you are looking for. It is easy to identify because it is dark brown and has a bitter taste. Then add water or low fat milk to the powder and stir it up. Lastly, add a natural sweetener like honey or coconut palm sugar and you are on your way. There are a few commercially sold mixes that are organic and naturally sweetened, but read the labels carefully before you buy.

While hot cocoa is much healthier than hot chocolate, the key is to reducing the fat and sugar content and adding pure ingredients to the drink. Purchasing healthy hot chocolate that has pure cocoa powder and a natural, low glycemic sweetener can give you all of the nutritional benefits you are looking for while still allowing you to enjoy the enriching flavor. Your kids will love it and you will feel great giving it to them.

The next time you see hot cocoa and hot chocolate on the market, the safe bet is to go for the organic, naturally sweetened hot cocoa. It will provide you with a much healthier drink while still giving you the flavorful drink. However, look at the fat and sugar content in hot chocolate because reducing these two can give you a healthy hot chocolate drink full of antioxidants and flavenols.

Enjoy organic hot cocoa, sweetened with Coconut palm sugar that builds your Immune System.

Here are 10 tips for women to stay fit and healthy:

1.	Staying fit and healthy starts with a balanced diet. Know and monitor the right weight for your age. Consult your doctor to learn what food you should avoid and follow your eating discipline routines. If you are trying to lose some weight, foods with high calories should be omitted from your meals. Food with high fiber and low fat should be included a priority in your grocery list instead of red meat, sugars and fats.

2.	Drink plenty of water. Drinking at least eight glasses of water everyday. This cleanses the body from impurities. It is also advised for lactating women to increase water intake to keep the body hydrated.

3.	Take Vitamins and Supplements. Do not forget your Calcium supplement. Sufficient Calcium intake is beneficial for women of all ages. This has been proven to prevent having cramps and Pre-Menstrual Period (PMS) Symptoms. It also prevents Osteoporosis especially for menopausal women. Vitamin E boosts strong immune system. Women who undergo menopausal period should take Vitamin E-400 as it stops night sweats and hot flashes. Also, Vitamin E is said to be best in avoiding wrinkles when aging.

4.	Quit smoking. If you are smoking, stop. It is also a big NO for pregnant women, as this will affect the health of the baby. Pregnant women who smoke may pass the harmful content of cigarettes to babies through the bloodstream. Recent studies have shown that women smokers are more prone to diseases than men smokers. Women who smoke have a high risk of getting breast cancer. Also limit your alcohol intake.

5.	Incorporate exercises in your daily routine. Take a walk after work, use stairs instead of elevator or play with your kids when you are at home. Home exercises are also effective especially when you do not have time to go to the gym and would like to lose some weight. Yoga and Pilates are only a few of the many effective exercises you can do at home. Exercises help in limiting the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

6.	Avoid stress. Many women are prone to too much stress. Stress has been known as cause to many sicknesses. As much as possible take time to relax. Read a good book, hang out with friends and engage into sports. Pamper yourself by going to parlors or you can do some shopping. And do not forget to get enough sleep to revive your energy.

7.	Use sunscreen to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. Wear hats when under the sun to protect your skin. Too much sun is bad for your skin. The skin is prone to cancer when exposed to too much sunlight. It also speeds up the aging of skin cells, which causes wrinkles to women.

8.	Make sure to visit your dentist to keep that beautiful smile. Always have it cleaned to prevent cavities and bad breath.

9.	Visit your Gynecologist. Women who are eighteen and above should have their Physical Examination annually especially for the Pap Smear test. Women who are forty and up should have their mammograms and the Breast self-exam is encouraged once puberty has been reached and should be a habit as they mature

10. Safe sex is strongly recommended. Use condoms to prevent sexually transmitted diseases.

Good old milk, it has been used for human consumption for thousands of years now . Around the world, people drink milk. From Asia to Africa, from Europe to South America, people around the world drink milk. But it does not stop there, even if cow’s milk is the most popular of all milks, other people of the world drink the milk of goats ,camels, llamas, reindeer , sheep and the water buffalo.

Milk also comes in many varieties. There is raw milk which has not been pasteurized, whole milk that comes from cows, low-fat milk, nonfat or skim milk, buttermilk, low-sodium milk, lactose-reduced low-fat milk and ultra pasteurized milk.

But there are now new studies that are coming out about calcium supplements and pasteurized milk. Known for being among top calcium sources of the body, they are now accused of causing osteoporosis. Will we look at milk differently from now on? Can we handle the truth about milk an calcium supplements?

Osteoporosis is not a calcium deficiency disease. The fact prove these. The United States is among the countries that have the highest rates of osteoporosis in the world, yet, it is also the highest consumers of dairy products such as milk. It is even recognized that American lack calcium .Then how can this be? When they are one of the highest consumers of milk?

Americans are ingesting the wrong kind of calcium. They are consuming a lot of dairy pasteurized dairy products that they end up losing more calcium. They end up having a negative calcium balance. The facts prove these, there are now more women being killed by osteoporosis every year than cancer of the breast, cervix and uterus combined. There are now 25 million Americans that are being diagnosed with osteoporosis. And that is not even counting the undiagnosed.

20% of bone mass is being replaced by the body each year but with osteoporosis, there are more bones lost than being replaced. It is not only pasteurized milk that contributes to causing osteoporosis. Calcium leaching foods also bring damage.

Calcium leaching foods like red meat, refined sugar, highly heated salt, inorganic phosphorous and caffeine. Diet low in fresh fruits and vegetables, not enough exercise also bring damage. All of these add up to bone loss ,all of these factors add up to bring osteoporosis.

Red meat contain large amounts of phosphorous. Phosphorous inhibits calcium absorption.
White sugar brings too much acid formation in the body. Acid formation that needs calcium to buffer the acidification of the body. Calcium that is taken from the bones .Calcium that once taken from the bones leads to bone loss.

Soft drinks contain phosphoric acid that also contributes to osteoporosis. Smoking, caffeine, alcohol and lack of exercise. All of these intensify osteoporosis. Be careful of what you eat. It is your health on the line.

This interview is an excerpt from Kevin Gianni’s Renegade Roundtable, which can be found at http://www.RenegadeRoundtable.com. In this excerpt, Chef Susan Teton Campbell shares on the history of her relationship with food and the successful balance for health she’s discovered.
Renegade Roundtable with Chef Susan Teton Campbell. Susan is a food evangelist and author of “Raising a New America” and co-author of “The Healthy School Lunch Action Guide.”

Kevin: First off, the way we like to start it here is just to tell us a little bit about your story, where you’re from and how you got to where you are now.

Susan: Well, I worked with John Robbins and a great group of people for several years during the mid-90s. Prior to that I had learned raw food inside and out and completely was a raw food, lived on a raw food diet in the early 90s for a couple of years. I think we were some of the very first people that ever were really advocates. Although that isn’t what we taught in the schools. We just worked in the schools to get a plant-based option. But for several years I lived on a strictly raw food diet and I thrived. It was like erasing the diet prison that I had ever been living in prior to that. It really just changed my life, as all of you may know. It’s such a vibrant diet, so full of colors and sensual aromas and such great tasting food and the way you feel is how the food looks and smells. It’s a whole new life.

So even though I had read a lot of nutrition books all my life and was always into food, this was something that really broke me open.. Then working with John and learning more and more about the environment, agriculture and that whole field, the whole green movement, which is a little bit more vibrant in the world right now than it was. I just continued to travel and live on this really good diet. But over a period of time it just didn’t really sustain me all the way. After a few years went by I began incorporating more cooked food into my diet. Not a lot but quite a bit more than I ever did.

Then I got quite ill with kind of an autoimmune disease and started really investigating different diets.. I had quite a few friends, I was living in LA at the time, that were living on raw food diets and more of a primal diet, which was completely animal foods, which was completely different to anything that I had ever tried. So I started incorporating more raw dairy into my life and more cultured foods – sauerkrauts and kiefer and all those probiotic-rich foods. I never really went to eating animal foods because I just couldn’t quite go there. Over a period of time I found that what was really most important for me was to eat from the earth and not the factory. That was really the bottom line.

Secondly, I was getting excellent fat into my diet and plenty of them. I think that’s why I thrived so well on a raw food diet. For the very first time not only was I being nourished by food abundantly from the earth, but I was getting a ton of good fats into my body, which I think are so important.

So after lecturing to so many children and students and parents and teachers, just to get them to take the very first steps, if they could just get bad fats out of their lives and put good fats in, get sugar and preservatives and chemicals out of their lives and start putting natural sugars and whole foods into their lives, they would make huge strides in their health.

Then people started really taking note of my recipes. People always really liked what I ate. So I decided along with my lecturing series to start providing culinary techniques so that people could actually learn how to go into the kitchen and start practicing what they hear everybody preaching. I found that everybody knows what healthy food is. Ask any sixth grader and he’ll say, “Fruits and vegetables, whole foods.” Everybody knows but they really don’t know how profoundly food is affecting their health today, their disease tomorrow and their longevity. Food is so powerful, not just for our bodies but for the environment too.

So this became my new business in the last several years. I’ve been developing cooking techniques that are for raw food and some of the basic cooked food that you can incorporate with raw food techniques and then cultured food. So it gave me a way to chunk it down into something that was more palatable, so to speak, for mainstream people that really want to make some changes.

Many people fail to succeed in loosing weight, and one of the key reasons is they have no plan for what they are going to consume at snack and meal times. Having a carefully thought out diet meal plan is obviously going to help you to stick with the program!

O.K. so there are a couple of ways you can go about generating your diet meal plan;
A. You can do it your self
B. You can surf the net for free diet plans, or
C. Pay for a weight loss plan

A. Developing a diet meal plan by your self, is likely to end in failure. It takes time, hurts the brain and even if you do it for a week or so is just too easy to get distracted and you give up.

B. Getting a free diet meal plan from the net is not a bad idea. They do however tend to be quite simplistic and you will more than likely need to adjust them to suit your needs.

Often the issues of becoming bored with them, or having to spend too much time altering them can lead to giving up.

C. You can always sign up to a program such as Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers. And these are very good, but the diet meal plan that they provide don’t tend to be suitable for a life time commitment. Unfortunately the trend is to lose weight, then return to old habits and watch it all come back!

Here are my three tips for a good diet meal plan;

1. A software program that can assist you to easily come up with a diet menu plan can be a savior. There are quite a few available around the $40.00 to $60.00 mark and many of them come as a part of a diet system. Generally you will still need to adjust the plan to some extent, but at least you have made healthy decisions based on what you like.
2. Consult your doctor or a dietitian to construct a healthy diet plan in consultation with you that you will enjoy and therefore have a great chance of sticking to.
3. If you do not want to spend your time or money, then Abandon all thought of developing a diet meal plan, and just simply focus on making your existing diet a more healthy one.

You can do this quite effectively if you stay committed. Just pick the most unhealthy food you currently eat and swap it for a healthy choice. An example would be swapping a mars bar a day for a piece of fruit. Once you have changed that habit, move on to the next food item, and so on!

The process of loosing weight is a simple one. Eat less calories than you burn!

However, no matter how accurate this statement is, in the real world it is much more complicated than that.

Extra tip: The less complicated you make your weight loss program the better; Make the decision that you wish to lose weight and commit to it. Do your research on the manner in which you will proceed (choose you diet menu plan), STOP looking and START doing.

Be aware that there will be days when you struggle. Try really hard to remember during those time to think about your overall success rather than just one bad day.

The right diet meal plan Is central to your weight loss plans. There are heaps of miss leading, ineffective and even potentially harmful diets out there today.

Steve Roberts is constantly reviewing the new diet meal plans as they appear into the market. Currently he believes there are 5 very good plans. You can check them out at; Lifestyle Health and Fitness

In the United States alone, nearly 13 million people suffer from some type of thyroid imbalance and are, usually, totally unaware of it. Iodine is a necessary nutrient, not only for proper thyroid functioning but, it is also essential for the normal functioning of body cells, nervous system, muscles, brain development, oxygen utilization, metabolism, a strong immune system, and a whole lot more. Understanding how important a critical trace mineral is, such as this one, to your overall health is well worth the time spent in learning more.

Many people who were deficient in iodine have witnessed some amazingly positive results from supplementation. While it is commonly recognized in the traditional medical community, in how this mineral plays an important role in helping hormone production in the thyroid gland. Common symptoms of thyroid malfunctioning are; fatigue, unexplained weight loss or gain, muscle weakness, hair loss, concentration problems, increased allergies, fluid retention, and being irritable.

According to Dr. Guy Abraham, M.D., a former professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and endocrinology at the U.C.L.A. School of Medicine, and a leading authority on iodine says, the limits of sufficient iodine levels in the human body go far beyond this, other possible body healing functions of iodine include:

1.Regulates moods
2.Prevents cancer (especially in breasts, ovaries, uterus, prostate, and thyroid gland)
3.Prevents and treats fibrocystic breasts in women
4.Regulates blood pressure
5.Helps regulate blood sugar, and prevents and treats diabetes
6.Helps to prevent abnormal cardiac rhythms

Dr. Abraham noticed that Japanese women have one of the lowest incidences of having breast cancer in the world. They typically eat more than 13 mg of iodine daily, in the form of seaweed, without suffering any ill side effects. It is also important to mention here, that most physicians consider doses above 2 mg a day to be potentially toxic.

When Dr. Abraham began his iodine research work, back in 1998, he discovered many other positive benefits of treating iodine deficiencies in patients with doses far above the standard recommended daily dose of 2 mg.

He noted that back in 1820 a French physician named Jean Lugol also used higher doses above 2 mg to treat a wide variety of health conditions. Dr. Lugol successfully treated many different infectious conditions with his own specifically designed solution, which is still available today by prescription, known as ‘Lugols’s solution’.

Iodine tends to have antibacterial, antiviral, antiparasitic, and antifungal qualities, it also enhances immune function.

Suboptimal iodine intake levels contribute to various thyroid abnormalities, besides the obvious thyroid goiter condition (swelling of the throat). Common problems are still seen today such as hypothyroidism (underactive), hyperthyroidism (overactive), and autoimmune inflammation of the thyroid (Hashimoto’s disease).

Most people get enough iodine in their diet from seafood and iodized salt. But, only about 50 percent of Americans use iodized salt. Due to battling high blood pressure, they have been blitzed by standard medical hype, and media attention, that reducing their salt intake is a smart move. However, high blood pressure is more directly caused by the body’s adaption to severe dehydration. Learn more about salt and water’s many health giving benefits by visiting Dr. F. Batmanghelidj’s, author of "Your Body’s Many Cries For Water", website called watercure.

One gram of refined iodized table salt, which has a high chloride content, contains 77 mcg of iodine. Some experts estimate that only about 10 percent of this iodine can be absorbed by the body. Therefore, a superior form of salt is needed by your body. A better source of iodine and several other trace minerals, which is naturally present in unrefined sea salt, is a wiser choice. It will cost considerably more but, the health benefits are worth it. You can find this type of salt in most health food stores.

Other sources of iodine in our diets comes from dairy products, meat, and eggs. The level of iodine can have varying amounts, though, depending on contents of animal feed. About 40 years ago, iodate was used as a bread stabilizer in commercially produced baked goods, further increasing our iodine intake. Recently this practice has declined, in the last 30 years, with iodate being replaced with bromide as it was considered to be safer. Other dietary sources are certain multivitamins, and ingesting so-called health foods such as kelp. They are, however, largely unregulated and unrecognized.

If you suspect you might be deficient in this necessary trace mineral you can perform a simple self test, although it may not be completely accurate. Paint a two inch spot on a soft skin tissue area such as your inner upper arm, or upper thigh, with tincture of iodine. If it takes longer than 18 hours for the stain to disappear, it is a good indicator you are iodine sufficient. If it absorbs more quickly, say 2 to 3 hours, you may possibly need to supplement. You may, then, want to have a more accurate, in depth, simple saliva or urine test performed.

Iodine utilization problems can be further restricted by ingesting goitrogens (substances that may cause enlargement of the thyroid gland) such as fluoride, bromine and bromides, and chlorine. The neat thing about being sufficient in this mineral, is that Dr. Abraham’s work showed that sufficient iodine levels help promote the excretion of toxic minerals such as lead, mercury, and cadmium out of the body, and the halogens fluoride and bromide as well.

Water is the main fluid choice that will help flush these harmful substances out of you, more quickly and efficiently than any other beverage. That is something you will be able to see and feel, as water is the basis for all sound nutritional diet success stories.

If anyone thinks they have not been affected by child abuse, looking at current statistics should tell you otherwise. The costs of child abuse in the United States has been estimated to be around $94 billion. That would appear to affect every taxpayer in every community across the nation. Of that $94 billion, roughly $55 billion is attributed to adult criminal behavior linked to early child abuse.

When children are victims of sexual or other forms of severe and chronic abuse, it can cause a lasting impact on their developing brain. Chemical changes develop to create response patterns that can continue through out a lifetime. Calculating the dollar amount of child abuse on communities begins with the need for more services that are funded by taxpayers with needs such as:

1.School programs for at risk children.
2.Lost productivity programs for the adult unemployed or underemployed.
3.Increased need for crime prevention and incarceration services.
4.More mental and physical health care programs.

People then begin to understand the epidemic proportions that child abuse brings with other related issues to their communities.

The child advocacy Center reports that one in three girls and one in four boys will be sexually abused by the age of eighteen. Dysfunctional household situations where someone was in prison, a mother treated violently, there was an alcoholic or drug user, a chronically depressed parent, mental illness or a suicidal influence accounted for most of the recurrent causes of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.

A common denominator of nearly all child abuse survivors is they also have some type of an immune deficiency such as: lupus, multiple sclerosis, cancer, arthritis, fibromyalgia, or chronic fatigue.

Researchers have also uncovered increased likelihood of heart disease, fractures, diabetes, obesity, unintended pregnancies, alcoholism, and sexually transmitted diseases. Although diseases such as these also affect those who have not been severely abused as children, a closer look at this information is important. What clues are we being given in this research data on the abnormal physical health problems of an abused child into adulthood?

How might diet interventions change the long term and overall outcome of child abuse? Might not it be possible to apply objectively proven nutritional diet strategies that have overwhelmingly demonstrated relief of disease symptoms of those diseases mentioned above in study after study?

By trying the tried and true method of of disease prevention through nutritional means and applying it at the earliest possible age deserves a chance in mainstream application.

Although this technique alone would clearly not eliminate the need for counseling services for the abused, it may just be the simplest method to use as a first step prevention method in providing long lasting results.

While we are waiting for a better prevention model and others to light the way for us, America is definitely sick and getting sicker. Our nation is not listening to the impact poor nutrition has on our society

Whether it be hearts, lungs, kidneys, or brains, all body organs need fed properly to function normally. Brain health is treatable through a proper diet. Lack of proper feeding produces disease. The better prevention model is here right now and has been proven to work!

Body, mind, and spirit are as one and treating each body part separately, as in what the conventional drug model does, will be a model that will eventually be doomed to fail.

There has been a big change in the eating habits of most people and the general awareness campaigns by governments and certain groups are finally paying off.

People are far more knowledgeable about nutrition and health and one of the best ways to improve your diet and health is to include more fruit and vegetables in your diet by using a juicer machine.

The benefits of juicing fruits and vegetables are many and this quick guide should help you understand the health benefits from juicing. The consumption of vegetable and fruit juices help to promote healthy life style and promote balanced nutritional intake.

Consuming the juice from fruits and vegetables could help you lower you cholesterol levels and help save you life. Also depending on the type of juice machine you use, the pulp provided will supply the daily requirement for fibre for a healthy diet.

There are many different juice combination to help work on specific ailments for example: the juicer from vegetables such as turnips, beets, okra, broccoli and kale contain increased amounts of calcium, vitamins and minerals that can help to protect your bones, teeth and also protect against certain types of cancer such as colon cancer.

One of the other benefits of juicing is for people who have problems chewing or digesting their food. The elderly are a good example of this problem and often having problems chewing raw vegetables or fruits and they would benefit greatly from the purchase and use of a good quality juice machine.

A single glass of carrot juice has the same appetizing flavor as a crunchy carrot without the problems associate with chewing such a hard vegetable. Juiced wheatgrass, grapes, cranberries, prunes and oranges will help in maintaining a healthy digestive system and so fight irregularity in bowel movements often associated with older people.

Do you have problems getting your children to eat fresh fruit and veg? Then try a juice machine and before you know you will be amazed and how many different types of fruit and veg you will be able to get into you childs diet. This will help maintain your children with a healthy wholesome diet of fruit and vegetables on a daily basis. Most children love the colour and natural sweet and fresh taste of such fruits as apples carrots, pineapples and tomatoes.

Other interesting facts about fruit and veg is that cranberries are very good for helping with cleaning your urinary tract, liver and kidneys. This is due to the antibacterial properties of cranberries to fight infections and toxins.

Also cabbages have been proven to be beneficial in the fight against ulcers. Cabbage is a natural pain reliever and has had some positive tests in the area of pain relief for stomach ulcers.

If like me you are not a big fan of fruit and veg then using a juicer may be the answer. You can gain all the goodness without the chore of chewing your way through 3lbs of broccoli.

There are several types of juicer machine and depending on your requirements and budget you will find one to suite your needs. There are three main categories of juicer and they are: centrifugal, masticating and triturating or twin gear juicers. All three types of juicer have a slightly different way of separating or extracting the juice from the pulp.

Masticating Juicer

The Masticating electric juicer machine operates at a much slower speed than the other juicer types. It chews the fruit or vegetable fibres and breaks down the cells so this is great for juicer recipes. In doing this it gives you more of the enzymes, fibre, trace minerals and vitamins.

Their are several good makes of masticating juicer machine including the champion juicer. It can also be used to homogenize baby foods, nut butters, fruit ice creams, sauces, and sorbets. The champion juicer also has an optional grain mill attachment for grinding grains into flour for bread making and cakes. The masticating juicer is not a cheap option but the quality and flexibility is second to none.

Centrifugal Juicer

The Centrifugal juicer machine uses a slightly different approach; it grinds the fruit and vegetables up and then pushes them through a very high-speed strainer. The strainer spins at speeds that ensure all the fruit and vegetable matter is separated in the same way that a washing machine works on the spin cycle.

This helps to produce more juice. Omega is a company that specializes in centrifugal juicers such as the Juiceman II machines. You can purchase a citrus attachment for the Omega juicer that will allow you to juice citrus fruit without the need for peeling. A good choice of juicer if you are on a budget and don’t mind more cleaning and maintenance.

Triturating Juicer

The Triturating juicer or twin gear juicer machine turns at a much slower rpm than the Omega or champion electric juicers and as a two step process. The first includes crushing the fruits and vegetables and the second step separates the juice. Just like the champion juicer a twin gear juicer will give you more enzymes, fibre, trace minerals and vitamins.

These juicers also include some very clever technology in the form of bio-ceramic and magnetic technology that helps to slow down the oxidation process. This is good news if you wish to store your processed juices.

This makes these type of electric juicer machine great for wheatgrass, leafy greens, sprouts; all root vegetables such as carrots and beets and other dryer fruits. It takes longer to extract juice using this type of juicer but you do get a higher quality of juice once extracted.

Almost 2/3 of the population of the United States are overweight and over 1/3 are obese. Dr. Suzanne Gudakunst from Arizona concluded after many years of research in the field of chronic obesity, she determined a definitive correlation between harmful plague and parasitic infestations of the human bowel tract. People suffering from chronic obesity who dieted and exercised were unable to lose weight what so ever. Some one billion people are infected with roundworm, and 500 million people worldwide are infected with pin-worm. In the United States, estimates of those infected with pin-worm range from 10 percent to 35 percent of the population.

The pin-worm (Enterobius vermicularis) is the most common worm in the United States, and is found largely in children. The main symptom of pin-worms is perianal (outside the anus) itching, especially at night. The itchiness can cause insomnia and, as a result, listlessness, restlessness, and irritability. The pin-worm leaves the body to lay eggs right outside the anus (thus the itching). The eggs can then contaminate underwear, pajamas, sheets, hands, and anything that contaminated hands may touch. The eggs can also float about the house. Whilst most parasitic infections may be avoided through careful hygiene, you may get pin-worm by simply breathing.

Roundworms or Nematodes are long, thread-like parasitic worms that cause infections of the digestive tracts in humans. Parasites can enter the human body from unwashed fruit and vegetables, contaminated meat, failure to wash hands often enough. Our modern diet of processed and modified foods makes it impossible for our bodies to defend against these intruders. Parasites attack and live in the stomach, intestines, and organs. Parasites can produce symptoms and conditions such as constipation, diarrhea, gas and bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, joint and muscle aches, anemia, allergies, skin conditions, nervousness, sleep disturbances, teeth grinding, chronic fatigue, and abdominal pain.

If you have parasites living in you, they trick the body to crave for food, which feeds them and encourages them to reproduce. When these parasites absorb all the nutrients from the food you consume, you are left feeling hungry, with less energy. Parasites cause damage to the body even after they die. Once they die, they cause swelling and blockage in the body. This affects the digestive system and colon, which leads to the building of plaques as found by Dr. Suzanne.

Eating a well-balanced diet with lots of fiber, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, and seeds. Fiber helps eliminate worms from the intestines; good nutrition improves immune function and protects the body against parasitic invasion. Parasites thrive on sugar and fat by decreasing the daily intake of these you are starving the parasites. Avoiding raw or undercooked fish, pork, or beef. Take a daily multivitamin supplement to prevent malnutrition and improve immune function. Supplementing the diet with probiotics which can be found in yogurts, they cultivate normal intestinal flora and suppress the spreading of parasites. Bowel preparations are also used to get rid of the creatures quickly and effectively, these are usually herbal and safe to use. Check with your pharmacist. Kill the parasites-lose the weight.

Question: What nutrient is the least discussed or thought of nutrient today? Answer: Water.

Water may be the most forgotten nutrient of all time. It’s easy to underestimate the importance of water in our lives. After all, it’s always there. Yet, without enough water, we would all surely die.

Consider this: The average sized adult can go as long as two months without food, yet they would die in just a few days without any water to drink. Despite it’s importance, most adults don’t drink enough water on a daily basis to keep their body in top form.

The human body has little reserves to store water, making it even more important to replenish your bodily supply each and every day. Believe it or not, our body loses almost three quarts of water every day. This includes:

-1 cup along from the soles of our feet.
-2-4 cups just from breathing.
-2 cups to sweating.
-6 cups to urine output.

The average adult may be made up of two-thirds water, but that doesn’t mean we don’t need to drink 8-10 full glasses every day to make sure we have enough needed to be healthy. Why is water so important to our daily lives and health? Water helps all of our body’s major organs and systems work properly including:

-Aiding digestion and the absorption of food.
-Regulating body temperature.
-Aiding in blood circulation throughout your body.
-Carrying nutrients and oxygen to different areas of your body through your bloodstream.
-Removing toxins and other dangers.
-Cushioning joints.
-Protecting tissues and organs including your heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord.

When you don’t take in enough water to keep your body functioning well, you become dehydrated. This can become very serious is left untreated. Dehydration can lead to a number of physical maladies including high blood pressure (hypertension), allergies, migraine headaches and even asthma.

Signs that you might be dehydrated include:

-Joint pain.
-Stomach pain (cramping).
-Back pain.
-Low energy.
-Disinterest.
-Poor concentration.
-Thirst (of course by the time you actually feel thirsty, your body may already be in jeopardy).

Water may be something we don’t all think about all of the time, but it’s important to your health to take the time to watch how much water you take in on a daily basis and be sure that you’re getting enough to keep your body’s systems and organs functioning properly.

Now that you better understand the important jobs that water has to maintaining good health remember to drink at least 8 full glasses of water every day. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink, since thirst is a sign of dehydration.

As we continue in the Oscar ceremonies for healthiest foods, we have two awards for Best Supporting Actor: Berries and Whole Grains.

Berries are in a big category. They include strawberries, raspberries, cranberries, blueberries and blackberries. Berries are some of the most nutritious of all fruits. They are full of vitamin C, fiber, folate and phytonutrients.

Berries are excellent cancer fighting agents because they are full of antioxidants. Blueberries for example are believed to be higher in their antioxidant properties than are strawberries. Blueberries are useful in helping people as they age; short-term memory loss is lessened thanks to their healthy benefits.

Berries are very simple fruits to prepare. All you need to do is wash them thoroughly and either cut them up or eat them raw. Berries do not require peeling like other fruits, such as oranges and peaches.

Whole grains are full of B vitamins, as well as vitamin E, fiber, magnesium and iron. Whole grains are also very rich in antioxidants and contain some that are not found in fruits or vegetables.

According to the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, Americans should eat plenty of grains on a daily basis. Half of all grains eaten should be whole grains, which works out to be three to five servings of whole grains on a daily basis. Always use whole-wheat flour when you bake as opposed to white flour. White flour is refined and is very bad for the body. When you buy such foods as breads, pasta, biscuits and cereal always look for the word "whole" on the packaging. Another way to add whole grains to your diet is to eat more brown rice, wild rice, barley or quinoa. Try experimenting with different ways to add these whole grain products to recipes, such as adding barley or quinoa to soups and casseroles.

Apples got the Oscar nomination, but not the Oscar itself. They nevertheless turn in an excellent performance and should be counted in the top ten. Apples are rich in vitamin C, which helps the body to absorb other types of nutrients such as folate and iron. Apples contain a substance called pectin, which is used in jams and jellies and as a thickener for sauces. Pectin is similar to fiber in that it helps to decrease cholesterol and moderate the level of glucose in the blood.

Wheat germ is the "heart of the wheat seed" and it is filled with nutrients. Wheat does not have much taste, so you might want to sprinkle it on cereal, porridge or yogurt. Wheat germ can also be added to batter when you are baking cookies, muffins, biscuits or pancakes. Wheat germ is rich in folate, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, thiamine and zinc. Two tablespoons a day is enough to optimize its health benefits. Thiamine is particularly beneficial for the proper functioning of the nerves while phosphorous encourages the development of strong teeth and bones. Iron, folate magnesium and zinc are all minerals that support healing in the body and are essential fro the growth of children.

Avena Sativa is extracted from wild oat straw and also been classified as an aphrodisiac. Oats have a long reputation of being a very energizing grain and until recently, the sexual side effects have gone undiscovered. The function of Avena sativa is to release or free up bound testosterone in both men and women. Logic will tell you, if this is the case, then the sexual side effect would be obvious.

The main benefit to this derivative is what it can do for the prostate. Releasing bound testosterone can help avoid an enlarged prostate that typically will lead to further complications down the road.

This is not a very glamorous oat plant but when it concerns health and nutrition, it is an effective addition. Most oats come to us from Scotland but no one can attribute the birth of beneficial oats. There are approximately 25 varieties but the one used the most is Avena sativa. Most people know that the oat itself is used in cereal grain, but the entire plant aside from the root is an important addition to herbal medicines.

Before the plant matures around the last 2 weeks of August, the seeds are actually milky or liquid in substance. This is the prime time to get the oats for tincturing to be used as a nerve tonic because they have the highest concentrate of nutrients and active ingredients.

Oats are very marming, sweet and moist. They have things such as flavanoids, minerals, alkoids, vitamins B1, B2, D and E, saponins, steroidal compounds, carotene, starch, fat and gluten. All of these ingredients are what makes oats such a good compound for relieving stress and nervousness by way of depression, lethargy or in general overall coping skills. Oats are also a good thing to use for external issues such as itching due to bites, eczema and shingles.

The oat bran is used to reduce cholesterol levels and is an excellent source of fiber. Also, the straw from the oat is used in many teas to promote overall good bone health and density.

Incorporating oats into your daily diet is so beneficial in so many ways. And can be used in so many different forms, that everyone including babies and toddlers can benefit from the use of oats.

Mother nature was sure about what she was doing when she gave us oats as they are in abundance and so healthy for all of us by containing the ingredients to help us manage some stressful things in life and contain enough vitamins, minerals, complex carbs, proteins and fiber, all of which are all necessities to any healthy diet.

Millions of people in America are trying to lose weight without much success. There are many reasons for this failure, although most would rather give up than fix their mistakes. Weight loss is hard! Without a little patience and knowledge about nutrition and exercise, your best weight loss plan may crumble. Learning the top reasons why weight loss plans fails is important so that you do not make these mistakes in your own life.

First, many weight loss plans fail because the people trying to lose weight follow too strict of a diet. When you cut back your calories, you will burn more than you eat, so you’ll lose weight, right? If you do this gradually, then yes, it works like a charm. However, if you suddenly cut too many, you won’t lose any weight at all because you metabolism will slow down. You also put yourself at danger for not getting enough for the vitamins, minerals, proteins, and other nutrients you need every single day in order to stay healthy.

Another common mistake is trying to go at weight loss alone. Everything you do regarding weight loss, from dieting to exercising, will be a hundred times easier if you have a partner because you will push each other not to quit. Working with a support system on a large scale is also important. Your friends and family should know that you are attempting to lose weight so that they can help you on the process and not tempt you by doing things like baking you cookies or taking up your gym time. Also, remember that professionals, like doctors and trainers, should come into the weight loss plan to help you shed the pounds.

Setting unrealistic goals is another good way to fail at a weight loss plan. When you set goals that you can’t easily reach, you push yourself to move forward and will feel successful even if you fall short. However, when you set impossible goals, you will find that you are easily frustrated. Don’t weigh in every day, don’t completely cut out all of the foods you eat on a regular basis, and don’t exercise to much right away. Gradually build up to reaching the goals you really want for your life, but smart out with smaller ideas.

Lastly, simply know yourself. Weight loss plans fail when you attempt to be something you are not. Maybe you have wide hips’a weight lose plan won’t completely change that, for example. You have to be happy with yourself on the inside before you change things on the outside in order to succeed at losing weight.

According the to United States Environmental Protection Agency, there are over 20,000 pesticides containing 620 active ingredients on the market in the US. More than 1,000,000,000 (One billion) pounds of active ingredients in conventional pesticides are applied each year in the United States. That’s over three pounds for every man, woman, and child who is a citizen of the United States. That in itself is alarming. Even more alarming is the government’s information on the potential health effects of pesticides. I am quoting the EPA’s own FAQ here: ‘The health effects of pesticides depend on the type of pesticide. Some, such as the organophosphates and carbamates, affect the nervous system. Other may irritate the skin of eyes. Some pesticides may be carcinogens. Others may affect the hormone or endocrine system in the body.’ Stay away from the commercially grown food! Save money and eat healthy and – grow your own organic food!!

The EPA is in charge of our safety from pesticides. They get a large helping hand from the manufacturers of the pesticides. The EPA is charged with setting maximum levels of pesticides likely to be found in food. That is not a typo, I took it straight from an EPA page…’maximum levels likely to be found in food’…not actually found in food, but likely to be found. ‘The EPA accomplishes this by requiring pesticide manufacturers to submit data that answer basic questions about what residues are present in foods and in what quantities.’ The manufacturers submit data regarding the residues of pesticides found on crops grown in the field when applied using the highest rate allowed by the product label. So the manufacturer of the pesticide delivers the data to the EPA and the EPA decides on how much pesticide is okay for us to eat. I love the taste of orthophosphates in the morning! Do you trust the pesticide manufacturers with the safety of your food? If not, the only way to make sure that our food supply is safer is to grow you own organic food.

The EPA also requires a battery of toxicity tests in laboratory animals to determine a pesticide’s potential for causing adverse health effects, such as cancer, birth defects, and adverse effects on the nervous system or other organs. Tests are conducted for both short-term (acute) and long-term (chronic) toxicity. For chronic effects other than cancer, laboratory animals are exposed to different doses of a pesticide to determine the level at which no adverse effects occur. This level is divided by an uncertainty or "safety" factor (usually 100) to account for the uncertainty of extrapolating from laboratory animals to humans and for individual human differences in sensitivity. The resulting figure, termed the Reference Dose, is the level of exposure that EPA judges an individual could be exposed to on a daily basis for a lifetime with minimal probability of experiencing any adverse effect. [Quoted from EPA Factsheet].

So let me get this straight, the EPA finds a pesticide that makes us sick and then they decide how much of that we can eat. Who checks on the farms? Who checks at the grocery store? Anybody want some tainted peanuts? I am not saying that the EPA is bad. They do a commendable job. I think that we should be surprised that there are not more serious health problems and outbreaks of food related illness;but how many chronic illnesses and adverse health effects are the cause of pesticide exposure over the course of a lifetime? Could neurological disorders be the result of exposure to organophosphates and carbamates? How would you know? If you grow your own food, you know exactly what was put on it. You know exactly what your children are eating! What if you could save money growing your own organic vegetables at home? You can! Read a book and go outside! Feed your children healthy food and lower your grocery bill. You can do it. You just have to go out in the yard and get started!

Weight loss plateaus are the bain of every dieter existence. There is nothing more frustrating than doing everything that you are ‘supposed’ to do but for whatever reason the weight loss just stops.

Before we get into ho you can smash through your weight loss plateau it is important to determine if you have actually plateaued OR perhaps you haven’t actually been following your diet and/or training program.

The first step is to do a gut check and make sure your compliance to your program is where it needs to be. If you haven’t been 90% compliant then stop reading this article and get back to focusing on doing what you actually said you were going to do.

If you have been sticking to your program but have stopped losing weight then we have a problem.

Homeostasis.

The human body is all about achieving homeostasis, so what we need to do is shake things up and get our systems un-homeostatic (not sure if that is a real word). Here are 4 ways that you can disrupt homeostasis and blast through your weight loss plateau. You aren’t meant to do all of them instead just pick one at at time.

1. Increase Calories for 7-10 Days
This doesn’t mean go off your diet. Instead, increase your calories (no more than 500 calories per day), mainly from carbohydrates to give your system a ‘break’ from calorie restriction. After the 7-10 day period cut your calories back down and your weight loss will start back up. This strategy works well if you have been dieting for a long time.

2. Crank Up the Intensity
Often times we find ourselves perpetually dieting and can just never seem to get those last 10 pounds off. In these situations cranking up the intensity on all fronts (diet and training) for a set amount of time is a great way to blast through a weight loss plateau. With this method we are basically shocking your system out of homeostasis.

3. Change Your Training Program
Sticking to the same training program for too long used to be a very common problem. Now with all the training resources on the Internet, being on a program for too long isn’t an issue for many people (but it may be for you). You need to be switching up your program (set, reps, exercises, how many days a week you train, etc) every 4-6 weeks.

4. Reduce Your Carbs
This tip is the opposite of the first one, but works just as well. Dropping your carbs down to a ketogenic level will strongarm your system into using fat as its primary fuel source. This metabolic fuel switch works best if your carbs aren’t too low already ( less than 100g/d). To further enhance the effect of this technique use the ketogenic diet induction protocol where you eat 20g/d of carbs or less for 2 weeks.

Weight loss plateaus are frustrating but don’t let them discourage you or stop you from reaching your goal. If you have truly reached a plateau pick one of the techniques above and put it into action. When you hit another plateau, pick another one. Continue doing this until you have reached your goal. Remember that for the most part weight loss is not a linear process. Plateaus are a normal physiological occurrence but using the strategies in this article you can beat homeostasis and achieve the body you want.

There is not a day that goes by where I am not asked something in relation to diet and nutrition. I always be as helpful as possible about the person’s specific concerns but the reality is that 99.9% of people who ask me diet and nutrition questions just simply need to grasp the one ‘big idea’ of eating clean and making it truly a part of their lifestyle by weaving it into the very fabric of not just what they do but who they are.

Whenever eating clean is explained to anyone wanting to make a difference to their body by someone who is ‘on the path’, the response is often a blank stare. Perhaps they cannot bring themselves to believe that eating clean can make such a profound difference, after all they have been force fed a diet of ads for ‘miracle supplements’ and high tech gadgets. Either that or that they actually realize the truth and can’t bring themselves to face it for whatever reason.

I have a wonderful and diverse client base and for me the most satisfying thing for me is whenever someone I work with ‘gets it’ and makes a decision to eat clean as a way of life. Their results improve but most of all I get a kick out of how they say “Gee, you know, it’s so simple, isn’t it?” I just nod and say “Yep.” Aside from the fact that they have a ton of energy and their workouts are as good as they have ever been, everyone is blown away with how easy life becomes. From the perspective of reshaping their body though, this one change is the foundation that will allow them to join the fitness elite.

We as a society are getting busier and busier but we are also being told that we are getting fatter and sicker. Diet and nutrition is in the news every day and is big business. It’s really not all that complex though eat clean – cut out processed junk eat fresh natural ideally organic meat, fish, vegetables and whole grains. All the little details will follow but if you are to have any hope at all, this simple diet and nutrition secret is what you really need to make your transformation a lifelong success.

This is the critical core principle that forms the foundation of your new approach to food as body fuel. It is a simple idea yet will have the greatest impact on your health, body and energy levels.
Simply stated, the ‘Natural, Organic, Clean, And Unprocessed Food Principle’ means that your eating plan will only contain a combination of natural foods, ideally organic to be prepared freshly and taken with
you as you go about your day.

This is absolutely fundamental to achieving the look you want for your body. Fuelling your body with clean nutritious foods and greatly reducing your intake of artificial food additives, chemicals and sugar
will stimulate your metabolism and allow your body to detoxify. Your body will finally be able to get rid of the stubborn body fat it wants to hold on to and you will not be giving it reasons to create more. By
following this key principle you will realize an almost immediate shift in your well being which will begin your transformation into an Ultimate Fat Burning and Muscle building Machine.

After 3 years of working personally with clients, I am convinced that ultimatums are a dead end road. As soon as we put a big "Forbidden Foods" list in front of our faces, we end up with bingeing, guilt trips and food obsessions!

It is more harmful to continually put your body through a raw food roller coaster than to find a happy medium and stick to it. I’ve said in the past, I would prefer that 80% of the population be 60% raw than 4% of the population be 100%.

The goal, remember, is not putting a "Raw Foodist" stamp on your forehead at the end of the day. We’re engaged in the pursuit of health, high energy living and ideally we’re doing this in a way that takes environmental impact of our choices into consideration as well.

So, if you’re not willing to have a hard-core Christmas, then here’s what I recommend you take into consideration. When restrictions are removed, the urgency to indulge in, or overeat, "forbidden foods" vanishes.

One of the ways I like to approach nutrition and eating is sensibly. I don’t believe that it requires an ability to decipher enzymatic, anti-oxidant and amino acid vocabulary to be able to thrive. If that was the case, we’d all be in trouble.

Whatever you’re considering eating, just look at your body, look at the food on your plate and ask yourself:

"Does this make sense?"

Is the food something you could find easily in nature?

You may be able to find wheat, for example, in nature, but in its natural state it is very indigestible to humans.

Would it taste good if you just added heat?

If you are going to eat cooked foods, then I highly recommend sticking to the foods that make sense. A slice of grilled fish, a baked potato and steamed broccoli makes a lot of sense to me. More sense than a "raw pie" loaded with dates, avocado and almonds.

I’ve felt much, much worse eaing complicated raw food recipes than I have eating healthy, simple cooked food like steamed greens or a sweet potato.

If you need to add a bunch of spices and sauces for your food to be attractive and digestible, then I would say leave it aside. Also, the extra sauces and spices are in large part responsible for the desire to overeat. These are the mechanisms of stimulation-addiction and the kinds of things that send the floodgates open. There’s only so much baked sweet potato and steamed broccoli a person can eat. But start smothering them in butter and cheese sauce and you have yourself a whole other story.

Keep your cooked foods simple and sauce-free. This will help you hold in line your own limits and leave you feeling relatively well, even if it is a meal of cooked food.

Avoiding the sauces and spices will also help you to choose better foods. Beans, legumes, pasta and most grains taste rather boring without salt and sauces, so best avoid them.

Chances are you’ll aslo find that it’s much easier to control your cooked food consumption when you’ve removed your restrictions about it. When the food is no longer "forbidden" obsession moves aside. You don’t have that lingering ultimatum telling you that "THIS, will be the LAST time you EVER eat cooked food!"

So, summing up, then stick to these:

Vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, green beans and peas taste perfectly scrumptious without doctoring them up with spices and sauces. In fact, I find most vegetables tast quite nice steamed lightly. Sweet potatoes, pumpkins and squashes of all kinds are super tasty, too! Also, a simple piece of grilled fish or meat usually doesn’t require anything for it to be appetizing to most people. Just think of the foods you could find in nature. Then, if you can add fire and keep the flavor without having to add a bunch of sauces, I think you’ve hit a winner.

So, there it is.

If ultimatums are not on your plate, then these are my top recommendations for what to put there instead. Remember that the joys of being with good people, celebrating life and all her sparkly pleasures is REALLY good for your health. Make that your priority and the rest will fall into place, I’m sure of it.

Children are facing the perils of obesity at an alarming rate with 17% of kids between the ages of 6 to 19 being overweight or obese, according to research.
Unfortunately, a lot of these overweight kids are victims of a lack of balanced home prepared meals due to the busy lifestyles of parents, whom are probably not eating wisely themselves.

Fast food style restaurants are more concerned with their bottom line rather than feeding the consumer with an inexpensive, healthy, low calorie tasty meal. Kids and parents keep going back for more since it fills you up, taste good and it’s affordable.

The poor are really in the grips of fast food eating, since you can fill up on belly, butt and thigh busting foods for under $5.00. Eating fish or salads at these chains is one way to avoid a consistant bad diet.

Becoming overweight or obese is a symptom of inactivity and poor eating habits and if not prevented, the child will grow up with all of the health, employment and social issues associated with obesity. It is important that parents take steps now before the kids need to start dieting.

If parents don’t lead by example and find a way to teach their children the importance of exercise and healthy eating, the chances of them forming good healthy eating and fitness habits are pretty slim. Leading by example is the best course of action.

Obesity wasn’t an issue in past generations, if a child wasn’t helping with the many chores that needed to be done, they were out on the street or on the ball field playing fun cardiovascular, fat burning type sports and games. Today most children find television and computer games a way of life.

With half of American families not having a sit down meal, many kids have to make their own food decisions when they get hungry, so they are left to the mercy of what ever is in the fridge or cabinets, or have money for a five dollar meal. If there is one stay at home parent, then providing consistent balanced healthy food, exercise and physical activity is essential.

Schools are at last playing an important role in offsetting the childhood obesity epidemic by providing students with more nutritional food choices. Results of the 2006 School Health Policies and Programs Study (SHPPS), released 10/19/07, reveals that schools are offering more fruits and vegetables, more whole grains and low fat dairy, and less high fat foods.

The foods parents provide at home can echo what the schools are offering with more fruits and vegetables, more whole grain products and less high fat foods and soda pop. Also, only 18.8% of schools offer deep-fried potatoes, down dramatically from 40.0% in 2000.

Some Tips: Parents need to try and prepare more healthy food for the kids and themselves, such as cold whole grain cereals or hot oatmeal to start the day and fill up on more large low calorie salads, dressed with vegetables for example and fruit for dessert. Prepare meals for the week on the weekend so when the kids reach for something to eat it will be of nutritional value, and don’t leave out protein…Cut way back on the five c’s, candy, cookies, cakes, cola and chips, unless their made of whole grain products.

The formula for maintaining a healthy weight is no different for children than it is for adults. Burn more calories than you take in and you have the best chance possible for weight control. School sports or sports outside the class room is one surefire fat burning activity, but if this isn’t feasible encourage the kids to start the day with some aerobics and stretching that will counteract all the TV and computer sitting, or 10 minutes of exercise for every hour they sit.

Kids today rely on their parents and the school system to provide them with the tools and knowledge they need to make good choices and avoid heart disease, cancer, diabetes and the other perils of poor eating and inactivity.

Research: One study found that 25% of obese adults were overweight as children and if being overweight begins before the age of 8 years, obesity in adulthood is likely to be more severe. Source: Centers For Disease Control (CDC)

Another study concluded that if a women was overweight before she became pregnant, her child was nearly three times more likely to be overweight by age 7 compared to a child whose mother was not overweight or obese. Source: National Institutes of Health (NIH)

The simple equation for healthy living still applies to everyone; Burn more calories than you consume and combine quality exercise with the proper foods and diet plan to maintain optimal health.

The most beneficial nutrients that the acai berry offers are antioxidants. Antioxidants are so important in a well-rounded diet because of two main benefits that they offer: anti-aging and a boost in cardiovascular health. As stated by numerous medical studies done over the positive effects of adding acai berries to a daily diet, the high levels of antioxidants present in the fruit, such as antocyanins, play a key role in combating premature aging and cardiovascular disease.

ORAC is an acronym for Oxygen Radical Absorbtion Capacity. The body’s ability to absorb oxygen is directly linked to the amount of antioxidants present in the diet and the more antioxidants taken in, the more the body is aided in absorbing oxygen. As the body is given more oxygen, it has a greater ability to fight the negative effects of aging and heart disease. Therefore, it is crucial to have a diet not only rich in vitamins, nutrients and minerals, but in antioxidants as well. The acai berry has been proven to be the best source for antioxidants available, but how does one find out the amount of antioxidants in acai products? Many of the acai products currently available include with their nutritional facts an ORAC value. A good way to gauge the ORAC values on the products is knowing the ORAC value of raw, harvested acai berries: Approximately, the ORAC value is 1200 for one gram of the acai fruit. Products that have an ORAC value of 400 and up are best, whereas some products only boast of 100 and even lower.

In addition to the ORAC value, the way in which the fruit has been processed is also an effective means of gauging antioxidant levels in a given product. Freezing the fruit pulp after harvesting, and using the frozen pulp to make a product without adding a substantial amount of additives, is one effective way of preserving the goodness of the acai berries. The second method is by processing the harvested berries into a freeze-dried powder. This method preserves both the long list of nutrients that the acai berries offer, and the high amounts of antioxidants that have been medically proven to fortify the heart and to fight premature aging.

Before you choose the acai product that is right for you, consider why you are buying it. If your reason is the antioxidants that are naturally found in acai berries, then you should be sure of the ORAC value in any acai product that you wish to purchase. That way, you will know without a doubt that you are getting the most for your hard earned dollars and a long list of vitamins, minerals and nutrients that will benefit your body in a number of important ways.

A lot of people complain of not feeling well most of the time. Perhaps its not a full on sickness, but more a general feeling of low energy. This may be due to the toxins accumulating in our bodies from years of consuming pollutants and toxins. Here are five small things you can do about it to make a possibly big impact on your feeling of wellbeing.

First, you may want to start a Master Cleanse to detoxify your body. Master Cleanse is a ten day program of primarily drinking the Master Cleanse drink and allowing your body to flush the toxins out. Some of the causes of toxic build up are from years of breathing polluted air, drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes and cigars, eating food coated with pesticides, and drinking unpurified water. The detoxification of Master Cleanse may give you a big push towards feeling better.

Secondly, after you have completed Master Cleanse, slowly reincorporate foods as instructed by the Master Cleanse directions. Try to choose strictly organic food to put in your body and cleaning products to use in your home. Everything we do, every choice we make, can affect the way we feel. By choosing the organic, healthy way and you may be adding to your quality of life.

Thirdly, you may want to start keeping a journal. Every day write down how you feel in the journal and what you did and what you ate. You might start to see a pattern of more exercise and healthier foods equalling a better feeling body and a happier you. Look for patterns and analyze what you are doing right and wrong for yourself. You may choose to change things accordingly, opening the door for better health and self knowledge.

Fourthly, try focusing on someone else. There are people hurting everywhere in our world and they may desperately need our help. The simple act of helping another can help us forget about our own problems and make us feel better in the process. If you do not know where to start, you might try calling your local nursing home and asking what they need. They may need someone to paint the nails of the residents, call Bingo, or help serve refreshments at a party, all of which could do wonders for your sense of self as well.

Finally, you might want to think about what you are doing in your free time. Are you using it to your full advantage or wasting it on things that wear you down? You might want to consider turning off the TV and reading a book. Television can dull the mind, while reading often stimulates it. You might want to try playing a crossword puzzle or game of Scrabble, taking a walk, cooking a gourmet meal, making a scrapbook, painting a picture, playing a round of tennis, or writing a letter to an out of town friend. All of these activities may make you feel better and this can cause you to live more fully.

Misa Smith, of Atlanta, GA, is a devotee of Master Cleanse and can attest to its ability to make her feel better overall. To find out more about Master Cleanse, visit http://www.baakla.com.

Staph infections, at times, can circulate rapidly through communities. They definitely upset health officials because of their potential danger to harm vulnerable individuals who, for various different reasons, have suppressed immune systems

A certain strain of staph infection, known as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, is problematically resistant to a broad spectrum of antibiotics, except for a very small few of the most powerful ones. Staph is a bacterium that commonly exists harmlessly on the skin, under fingernails, and in the nostrils of about 30 % of our population, according the the ‘U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’. But, about 1 % of the population contacts the antibiotic resistant strain, known as MRSA, and this form of staph infection can cause a very serious skin infection, and an internal infection as well.

This type of staph infection can circulate rather quickly in common athletic areas such as gyms and fitness centers. This potentially harmful bacteria can be found on sports equipment, in locker rooms, and on personal hygiene care items such as towels, soaps, and razors. MRSA infections are contagiously spread by skin-to-skin contact through an open cut wound, or contact through personal hygiene care items.

A known outbreak in a community should, therefore, have everyone seriously paying attention in keeping sports equipment, and other suspected areas, properly sanitized. Warnings, also, need to be issued in the advising of no sharing of personal care items.

People with healthy immune systems are not as susceptible to succumbing to this type of infection as those individuals who have a weaker immune system resistance. These individuals can become colonized with this type of deadly infection rather quickly. Lesions on the skin may first appear to be a spider bite or a boil. But, experts on staph infections claim that about 25 % of these types of skin infections end up requiring hospitalization. They cause infections of the bloodstream, central nervous system, heart valves, bones, and pneumonia.

In fact, over the last four to five years 95% of staph infections turn out to be MRSA. MRSA can also carry a gene mutation that can destroy white blood cells and infect other body tissues and organs. MRSA infections start out as small red bumps on the skin that can quickly turn into deep, painful abscesses. Sometimes the bacteria remains confined on the skin but, it can also burrow deep inside your body. Causes of MRSA include:

The results of decades of unnecessary and excessive antibiotic use.
The overuse of antibiotics in livestock farming operations, resulting in feedlot run off that migrates to municipal water systems.
Continued unnecessary and excessive antibiotic use contributes to their ineffectiveness of other types of antibiotics.

Risk factors for contacting a MRSA infection are:

A current or recent hospitalization.
Being a resident of a long-term health care facility.
Requiring dialysis, catheterization, feeding tubes, or other invasive hospital proceedures.
Have been treated with fluoroquinolones ( a type of antibiotics) such as ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, levofloxacin, and cephalosporin.

Doctors diagnose MRSA by obtaining a tissue sample of nasal secretions. The sample is sent to a lab and results are returned within 48 hours. There are some newer tests, becoming more widely available, that can detect staph DNA in a shorter amount of time. Vancomycin is one of the few antibiotics left, that is still effective against hospital strains of MRSA. Be advised, however, that it is no longer effective in every single case.

There is some promising news, however, on how you can protect yourself against an infection with an antibiotic resistant form of staph infection, in a more natural way. Regularly consuming good bacteria nutrition, like what you will find in homemade fermented foods and beverages, can help protect you from developing this dangerous type of infection.

These friendly germs, in abundant populations, will help provide your skin, digestive tract, and immune system with a very powerful, protective barrier against disease causing pathogens such as a common staph infection, or a more problematic and antibiotic resistant MRSA infection..

In light of what is not working on the drug treatment battleground scene with antibiotics, which approach do you believe has a more common sense potential to solve this problem?

Flushing out potentially harmful disease causing staphylococcus bacterias out of your internal system with nothing much else, in fluids, but water is another a good way to avoid a serious staph infection like MRSA.

You can take more control in naturally building up your immune system strength, in fighting off many other different types of disease causing bacterial infections this way also. You can make your intestinal system more fit, and healthier, with a boosted diet of good bacteria nutrition and, of course, by keeping yourself properly hydrated and cleansed in adding more water consumption to your daily diet routine.

Healthy eating is important for everyone, but it is particularly important if you have a chronic illness, such as multiple sclerosis. A good Multiple Sclerosis diet is understood to help manage and possibly eliminate many of the symptoms that come along with the disease. This can help slow the progression of the disease. Good nutrition, especially adequate calories and protein, helps maintain your bodies store of protein, provide energy, heal wounds, and fight infection. In between you should check with a doctor for a specific suggestions or procedure, for the basic tips to a good MS diet.

A key factor in a well multiple sclerosis diet is to eliminate all gluten. In Universal, you should avoid eating anything with flour, but you can check package ingredients if you are unsure of their content. There is no diet that will treat or cure multiple sclerosis, however there may be some connections between MS and diet. Many diets besides the MS diet do not allow gluten, so this is now easily found on many packages. Avoiding wheat, barley, oats, or rye is another way to cut gluten. People who eat too much saturated fat, processed lunch meats and sausages or have low levels of vitamin B12 or vitamin D may be at a higher risk for multiple sclerosis.

Vitamin B12 is found in animal products such as meats, fish, dairy products and eggs. For a successful diet you should also limit or keep away from animal fats, including dairy products and butter. Olive oil, sunflower oil, and safflower oil are suitable alternatives for cooking or salads. For good digestion, you should try to avoid fried foods in general. Vitamin D is found in fortified milk and cereals, but your body can make most of the vitamin D you need when your skin is exposed to sunlight. Both vitamins can be taken as dietary supplements as well.

There is some evidence that reducing saturated fats and increasing polyunsaturated fatty acids may be of some benefit to people with multiple sclerosis. Totally avoid highly saturated fats in your diet. White meat skinless chicken, seafood, and fish are the best meat choices. Make sure to always completely remove any fat. Try to replace the saturated fats you cut out with unsaturated fats. Be sure to eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables every day and choose whole grains whenever possible.

Anyone, but specially those on a Multiple Sclerosis diet, should try to totally eliminate advanced sugar. There are many healthier alternatives that you should understand as well. Honey, fructose, or natural unsweetened fruit or vegetable juices would be ideal for a person on this diet. Supplements such as evening primrose oil contain gamma-lanoline acid. This substance can be converted by the body to form lanoline fatty acid. However, individuals with MS seem to have difficulty making the conversion.

Apparently, any foods you are allergic to should be cut from your diet. If you are unsure of allergies, try consulting a doctor or allergy specialist. Vitamin supplements may also be beneficial or even necessary for your Multiple Sclerosis, but you should consult a doctor to make sure you take the right vitamins. You may also try eliminating all of the most ordinary crisis foods from your diet, and after two weeks bring them back one at a time. If you have a bad response to any food, then you be supposed to eliminate it from your numerous sclerosis diets.

You should increase the amount of fresh vegetables and fruits in your MS diet. Try to always eat recently cooked food when you must cook it. This will add to the amount of vitamins and minerals your body absorbs. This will help to make up for some of the nutrients you lose by critical certain things from your diet. Medical researchers currently believe that MS patients are not born with multiple sclerosis and it is not a genetic disease.

So often in todays society is so fast paced we do not have any time to just sit down and relax. We are constantly surrounded by stress that is affecting every one of us in a negative way. Rather than dealing with the stress in the right way, many people prefer medicines to deal because their just seems to be no time otherwise.

Rather than self-medicating to deal with your high stress levels, let me introduce you to Yoga, which is considered one of the most effective ways for improving your health, fitness, and more importantly, high stress levels.

Yoga provides you with psychological, physiological, mental, and physical benefits. It gives you an outlet to unite yourself with happiness and the ability to release major stressors in your life including: fears, agony, and tension.

Yoga first evolved from a spiritual exercise in Hinduism, but now is considered just part of a good healthy life style. There are so many different types of Yoga, I just want to give you some generic guidelines that will help you to be familiar with the basics.

Always use a mat or grass for laying postures

Close your mouth and focus on using only your nose for inhaling and exhaling

Breath as deep as you possibly can so that you can supply your body with the maximum amount of oxygen.

Take your time and rest in between poses if needed

Avoid eating too much before your yoga practice, and avoid fasting often. Stay away from stale and unhealthy foods that can be harmful.

Take in a balanced diet consisting of all the different food groups

As you begin your yoga practice, start with easy postures and progress slowly to a more difficult level.

Be certain to wear clothes of maximum comfort that are more of a tighter fit. The last thing you want is loose and scanty clothing getting in your way while performing a pose.

Yoga requires a lot of focus and concentration. Drink a glass of water before you begin your practice.

The best results come from the most level of comfort. Make sure to empty your stomach and bladder before your practice. Eat dinner early and try to consume less at night.

Make sure that you have selected a peaceful place that is airy and pleasant, this means that there should be no distractions. Often times pleasant Yoga music is a big plus.

All of these suggestions can greatly improve your stress levels and bring a state of relaxation in your life while enjoying a new healthy-fit life style.

If there is one thing that I have learned in life is that people in general do not like change. There are any number of motivators that we could list here that would cause someone to make a change in their life. However, there is and never will be a motivator as powerful or more assured of getting change out of people as “pain”. As an example, I am sure that you know someone that simply does not like to go to the dentist. Over the years I have known any number of people that simply did not like going to the dentist for one reason or another and as such short of being threatened with death you would not find them in a dentist office.

The exception to that rule is a tooth ache that gradually increases in intensity to a point where the pain is no longer tolerable. At this point the pain of the tooth has surpassed their fear of walking into the dentist office. Think of your comfort zone as a box that you live in and outside that box you will find change. As I mentioned there are any number of things that will motivate a person to step outside that comfort zone and go through the change that waits outside of their comfort zone. Now, think about the one thing that will get people to move outside of their comfort zone when nothing else will. In many cases that motivator is some type of discomfort (pain) or fear of the pain that will be experienced without the change required to avoid it.

I see this all too often and it typically goes something like this. I’ve talked with a potential new customer that is having health issues of some type. We’ve discussed the challenges that they are having and feel confident that I have a product that will help them improve the quality of their life. Keep in mind that in many cases these products have been through double blind placebo human clinical trials with third party validation – the gold standard of testing. As such there is solid science proving that these products will work. The person in question has tried the product and during the follow up I discover one of the following:

- The product was not taken as recommended.
- The product wasn’t taken at all.
- The product was taken and there were positive results, but they are not going to continue with the product because________(you fill in the blank)
- And the list goes on. All of these tell me there is nothing that I can do to help this person, which is very disheartening.

Mainly due to the fact that if they were willing to make a change at this point, further complications could be avoided down the road. As I have heard all of my life: You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.

Very often I end up talking to these same people down the road and the only thing that has changed is that the discomfort has reached a point that they are willing to make a change. Or, as I stated early the fear of the pending discomfort has reach a point as which they are now willing to try something to avoid the pending pain. For reasons that could fill a book the obstacles that they had during the initial interaction are no longer such an obstacle. The cost isn’t such a problem, the taste might not be so bad, or now remembering to take the product on a daily basis won’t be such a problem after all. A great, but sad example of this is someone that has an addiction. They will find a way to get a fix regardless of whether they can afford anything else. I known people on fixed incomes that struggled with the cost of their medications, groceries, etc, etc, but always had cigarettes on hand.

The sad part is that we all have a choice to make and often, so many people choose to make poor decisions or no decision at all – which is really the same as making a bad decision. There are mountains of research showing that with a consistent day to day wellness plan we can avoid much of the pain and discomfort that we put ourselves through. Worse yet, if we ignore our health long enough we end up talking to a doctor that writes a prescription that makes us feel better (or at least covers up one problem), but has not addressed the real problem. In more cases than not we are taking prescriptions that simply mask the under lying problem and as such we continue to do more damage to our bodies. To further complicate matters many of the prescriptions cause serious side effects and in millions of cases each year death. Great you no longer have the symptoms that you were suffering from, but now you are dead because of complications. Not a good trade off from my perspective.

So, if these prescriptions are not addressing the real problem, what is the real problem?

Aging. In case you didn’t catch that the real problem is “AGING”. If we address this single problem many of the underlying symptoms go away. Diabetes, Osteoporosis, Arthritis, Cardiovascular Disease, High Blood Pressure, and this is just the start of the list. Fortunately there is a company that has the science and technology to address the single problem “Aging” and has come up with a line of products that have been verified through double blind placebo human clinical trials to address this problem of aging. Univera LifeSciences has a phenomenal product line that is ground in latest cutting edge Anti-Aging science. Their line of products AgelessXtra, Ageless Essentials, Ageless Prime, and RegeniCare, just to name a few are unparalleled in the nutritional supplements industry. For those that are curious about more details on these products I will be providing an in-depth review of these products and more, under our Product Review section, with references to any scientific research that is available.
