I’m a big lover of all things architecture. I’m not sure if it’s because my grandfather and great grandfather were architects, or if its simply because I enjoy the rich history that each architectural building offers. But, more than anywhere else, I find that Europe offers some of the most amazing architecture – add it to your holiday destinations and you will definitely be impressed IF you are into architecture. There are literally thousands of places I could tell you to visit, but instead I will just list my top four favorite spots!

- St Basil’s Cathedral: At the southern end of Red Square, framed by the massive facades of the Kremlin and GUM department store, stands the icon of Russia: St Basil’s Cathedral. This crazy confusion of colours, patterns and shapes is the culmination of a style that is unique to Russian architecture. Before St Basil’s, this style of tent roofs and onion domes had been used to design wooden churches.

- Sicily: Sicily is full of wonderful baroque architecture – in particular Palazzo Beneventano and Palazzo Fava – and framed by rocky cliffs. It is well off the beaten track and there is seldom another tourist in sight. From here you can head down to Modica Marina (around ?2.20, six buses daily) and Sampieri (around ?2.50, three buses daily) on the southern coast for long sandy beaches, as well as rocky coves.

- Cath?drale de Notre Dame de Paris: This is the heart of Paris – so much so that distances from Paris to every part of metropolitan France are measured from place du Parvis Notre Dame, the square in front of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Paris. A bronze star across the street from the cathedral’s main entrance marks the exact location of point z?ro des routes de France. Nearby, Charlemagne (742-814), emperor of the Franks, rides his steed under the trees.

- Archangel Cathedral: The Archangel Cathedral at the southeastern corner of Sobornaya ploshchad, was for centuries the coronation, wedding and burial church of tsars. It was built by Ivan Kalita in 1333 to commemorate the end of the great famine, and dedicated to Archangel Michael, guardian of the Moscow princes.

It might seem as if these direct holidays are for people that only have a ton of money to spend, but this isn’t true. There are tons of holidays 2011 that you can find such as the cheap holidays above where you can save money and yet have summer holidays. You simply have to know where to search for low cost holidays. Beyond looking for a travel agent (in person), I would suggest that you book direct holidays and your holiday destinations with a website online that either offers features like Expedia or sites that have virtual travel agents to help you find the best prices and the best holidays 2011!

If you have never been to Europe before or specific countries in Europe you are in for quite the surprise! The one thing I really like about Europe is the one thing I really like about the United States. You can visit south, west, east or north and always run into a different culture, a different way of life, and a different group of people that live a certain way. In the US they have states. In Europe we have different countries throughout the continent such as Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, and many more direct holidays!

All of these places, quite obviously, have their own way of life, languages, food and so much more. In fact, grouping Europe into such a small space for writing about it is going to be damn near impossible. But, what I would like to do is give you samples of some of the best sights for sightseeing when it comes to summer holidays in Europe.

- Van Gogh Museum: The Van Gogh Museum is one of Amsterdam’s must-sees. Opened in 1973 to house the collection of Vincent’s younger brother Theo, it consists of about 200 paintings and 500 drawings by Vincent and his friends and contemporaries, such as Gauguin, Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec and Bernard. Vincent van Gogh was born in 1853 and had a short but astonishingly productive life.

- Vatican Museums: Visiting the Vatican Museums is an unforgettable experience that requires strength, stamina and patience. You’ll need to be on top of your game to endure the inevitable queues – if not for a ticket then for the security checks – and enjoy what is undoubtedly one of the world’s great museum complexes.

- House of Bols: The House of Bols is a jenever (Dutch gin) museum run by the Bols distillery. The hour-long, self-guided tour includes a confusing sniff test, a company history and a cocktail made by one of the bartenders who train at the academy upstairs. You must be aged 18 or over to visit.

- Mus?e du Louvre (my favorite!): The vast Palais du Louvre was constructed as a fortress by Philippe-Auguste in the early 13th century and rebuilt in the mid-16th century for use as a royal residence. The Revolutionary Convention turned it into a national museum in 1793.

So where can you find these amazing sights? These sights can be found on any holiday destinations or cheap holidays website and right now since summer is creeping up on us, you can also find these sights under summer holidays or direct holidays in Europe. Virtually any website you find will have holiday destinations available for you to purchase holiday extras with to these locations! I would highly recommend visiting the Van Gogh Museum if you like Van Gogh’s work. The Vatican if you would like to learn about history or you are an architect buff and the Louvre if you love paintings of all sorts. The Louvre also is a superb inspiration for architecture lovers as well!

Many people wouldn’t expect to find an Ohio pubs guide available anywhere, but did you know that there are resources for just about any type of business found in Ohio? Such guides offer natives and tourists prime locations where various forms of entertainment can be found- from sporting arenas to those hole-in-the-wall bistros, clubs and pubs to be found in every major city in the Buckeye State.

An Ohio pubs guide helps individuals find the type of club they’re looking for in any given area, whether you’re looking to party hearty or enjoy a nice quiet evening out with your new bride. Pubs may be found with disco dance floors, entertainment venues, martini bars, and pool tables. Such guides also state whether or not the pub of choice offers music such as rap, techno, classic rock or a college ambience or Bogart-style atmosphere. Such pub guides will also specify if a particular pub is best for mingling, dancing, or relaxing.

Remember that not all pubs are created equal. Sure, there are many typical bars and nightspots found throughout Ohio, but a guide will help narrow down your search, especially if you’re not familiar with a given city or area, to ensure that you have a good time. Are you looking for fun and action, or a romantic night out with your new date? Do you want to find a classy pub on the lakefront, or downtown? Do you want karaoke or do you want to sip Manhattans and watch the sunset on an outdoor patio during a gorgeous Ohio spring evening?

Guides offer individuals lots of ideas when it comes to planning that perfect night out. Offering maps, locations and services provided by pubs, clubs and bars in any area throughout Ohio, you may research your destination before you get there to make sure it’s exactly what you’re looking for. Guides also offer contact information on pubs within Ohio, along with website addresses so you can take a peek inside and out before you venture into new neighborhoods to ensure that the location is right for you and your date or party.

When looking for a pub, remember to look for information regarding the establishment’s reputation, prices (are cover charges required), food services, if any, and atmosphere. Check ahead of time about entertainment venues such as live bands, singers or comedy skits, as well as whether or not reservations for such events are required. Find the best route to get there, whether by car, taxi or limo. Using an Ohio pubs guide will help you find that perfect pub location to make your date, night out with friends, or bachelor party a raging success.

When before, the trend was renting or purchasing DVDs from various video stores, there is now a cheaper and more convenient way to watch movies regularly. You also would not have to spend valued dollars watching movies in cinemas because you would just have to download movies to your computer and enjoy private viewing all you want. There are about a thousand video download sites that would allow you to get all the movies that you want. Most of these websites, of course, require download fees but if you are lucky, you would find websites that only ask for a one-time registration fee. Paying for this registration fee would allow you access to their database and have unlimited movie downloads. You will have the time of your life and be a movie buff as long as you can because most of the websites with a one time registration fee offer lifetime membership. There are options to get just a one or two years of membership but since the prices do not differ that much, it would be best to get the lifetime option. Besides, no one would ever get tired of watching movies. Since watching movies is something that everyone enjoys doing and no one would ever get sick of, getting a lifetime membership is the greatest option you could ever choose.

The only thing you would have to consider is which website to download movies from. In downloading movies, it is important to first check the movie quality. Downloading videos of poor quality would just be pointless as you would not be able to enjoy watching a movie with blurred images. The website that you should pick should have videos with the highest quality. The clarity of the sound should also be considered as no movie experience could be considered complete without great sound effects. The sound effects are even often responsible in making or breaking a movie so high quality sound is also required in movies. Choose a website that can provide these two and you would surely have a wonderful movie experience.

The website that you should choose to download movies from should also have a large database. Getting movies from a site that has limited options when it comes to movies would just be a waste of time as you will not have the chance to watch movies you are interested in watching. Further, the registration fee that you would pay would not really go far as you would not be able to enjoy the movies you thought you would get to watch.

Another thing you would have to take a close look into is whether the movies you will be allowed to download are full length ones. Some websites are fond of just giving the first half of the movies you paid for so it is best to stay away from these websites. Conduct a research first before paying for anything as you might encounter a website filled with malware and viruses. You would not want to be a victim of these viruses as you want your files to be kept safe.

"The check’s in the mail". "No, you don’t look fat in that". "You don’t look that old". These are familiar exaggerations, white lies or what my grandmother called Pinocchio noses.

A building contractor nose how to convince you the remodeling will be done on time. A used car dealer nose how to make an old car look good. A lawyer nose how to make his client look innocent.

When I was an innocent child and the doctor said, "This won’t hurt", I was too busy looking at the lollypop to see if his nose got longer. Now I watch the doctor’s nose very carefully.

I listen very carefully when charities call to ask for donations. Although the "Do Not Call List" doesn’t apply to charitable organizations, I don’t feel very charitable if the charities won’t send their requests by mail. Pinocchio noses know that would be mail fraud. They also know they would need a nose guard in prison.

Pinocchio noses used to notify you by mail that you’d won large amounts of money. Now they notify you by e-mail. Either way there are strings attached. Either way the notifications are "Gipetto-ized".

Teasers are used on local, television news to keep us from turning the channel. "Alien sighting next" or "Cure for cellulite when we come back". After six or more commercials they come back, but the teaser is carried over to the next segment of the newscast. Do local newscasters have long noses because they tease or because they have the nose for news?

There are a lot of television ads for weight-loss products. Some are for weight-loss drinks. Others are for pills or prepared foods. Maybe the makers of these products really could lose five pounds in one week if they cut off their noses.

When you go to the movies, you sit through fifteen minutes of previews for upcoming movies. Occasionally you see one you like. However, when it’s advertised in the newspaper, the flattering quotes are from the" Iowa City Gazette" and "Movie Magazine". Ebert and Roeper’s noses stay out of it.

Politicians should have the longest noses of all – especially when they’re campaigning – when they’re promising whatever you want to hear. I’ve never seen a politician with a Pinocchio nose, but I’ve never seen both hands of politicians when they’re making promises. They’re crossing their fingers. It’s as plain as the nose on your face.

Cinema has enjoyed a strong presence in Gauteng since 1896, when it was first introduced as "the most startling scientific marvel of the age". Between 1916 and 1919 Gauteng was home to a flourishing local production industry, but by the 1920′s the popularity of American films had overwhelmed the fledgling industry.

During the 1920s and 30s films were a popular source of entertainment. As a form of propaganda they were shown in mines to distract miners and keep them from the more ‘dangerous’ of the city’s pursuits. Later, they became a source of inspiration and style to the vibrant, hybrid communities of Sophiatown, Lady Selbourne and Marabastad, where they provided access to dancing, American culture and jazz. It was in the cinema that poets and writers such as Don Mattera and Es’kia Mphahlele learned and refined their English. Local gangsters derived their dress, speech and attitude from American films. The late introduction of television in 1976 kept cinemas far busier than their European and American counterparts.

This rich cultural legacy was sadly eroded over subsequent decades as many black artists were forced into political exile and filmmakers working within the country increasingly wore the brunt of archaic apartheid censorship laws. From the 1950s through to the late 1980s, apartheid and its injustices came to dominate some of the most significant South African feature film productions of this period. Donald Swanson’s Jim comes to Joburg (1949), Zoltan Korda’s Cry the Beloved Country (1951), Lionel Rogosin’s Come Back Africa (1959), Sven Persson’s Land Apart (1974), Gibson Kente’s How Long (1976), David Bensusan’s My Country, My Hat (1982), Oliver Schmitz’ Mapantsula (1988) and Sir Richard Attenborough’s Cry Freedom (1987) are stark reminders to some of the country’s darkest moments.

During the 1990s and the political transition period, many films continued to focus on the legacy of apartheid. Anant Singh and Darrell Roodt rose to fame with Sarafina! (1992) as well as their adaptation of Cry the Beloved Country (1995), whilst internationally renowned artist William Kentridge used the stark industrial landscapes of Johannesburg in his acclaimed charcoal-drawn animated short films to explore the dramatic intersections of land, history, conflict and identity.

Since a new democratic dispensation, the local feature film industry has experienced somewhat of a rebirth with an increasing broadening of themes. The recent successes of films such as the Academy Award winning Gavin Hood’s Tsotsi and Tristan Holmes’ Elalini, Jason Xenopoulos’ Promised Land, Roodt’s Faith’s Corner, Zola Maseko’s Drum and John Barker’s Bunny Chow are indicative of a ‘new wave’.

Shopping for the right HDTV is not an easy task – it can be quite daunting. What features are important when making a decision? How do you compare different models of TVs? How do you make sense of it all? This article should help you understand the ins and outs of shopping for a HDTV.

Understanding some of the technical specifications of high definition televisions will make it easier to select the right one for you. First, make a selection based on native resolution (this is the number of horizontal pixels by vertical pixels the has the capability to display.) TVs with a higher native resolution produce a better picture. Sets with a 1080p display have a native resolution of 1920×1080 – anything lower than 720p is not truly a high definition television. Luckily HD TV prices have dropped significantly over the years, which means you can have your cake and eat it too.

The next item to consider with HDTV TVs is contrast ratio. What this boils down to is the difference between a white pixel and a black pixel (or the brightest image to the darkest). Again, the higher the ratio the better off you’ll be when it comes to HD TV. If you select a 1080p TV, a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 is stellar – the picture quality of these TVs will blow you away. But there is one thing to watch out for when researching the contrast ratio of a HD TV. Sometimes the manufacturer will advertise a 10,000 or 15,000 ratio that really refers to the dynamic contrast ratio of the TVs, which is different. This is something to look out for when searching for a LCD HD because with a LCD television the contrast ratio tends to be on the low side. The dynamic ratio only reflects the amount of dark and bright luminosity that the television produces over a period of time.

Next, consider selecting from HDTVs with standard definition. Most people still watch many forms of media that are not made for high definition TV, so this is an important feature to have. Although HDTVs can display standard definition from DVDs, VHS, and satellite and cable, the picture quality is not up to par. Televisions that are designed to play standard definition are a better investment.

The video processor is also important. The computer inside the LCD HDTV is the brain behind high definition television – it processes the high definition TV signals coming into the set and displays them on the screen. If this part of the system is not up to scratch, the picture quality will suffer, no matter how good the other specifications are. A cheap HDTV processor leads to a disappointing experience. HD televisions are meant to be high quality. The easiest way to research processors is to read reviews on High Definition televisions and find out what the experts say about picture quality for each system you are considering. Whether purchasing a LCD, or any of the other HD TVs available, research is key.

Ukulele is a guitar with four nylon strings. The tone and volume of the ukulele varies with its size. The ukulele is made out of wood.

Low quality ukuleles are made from ply woods while more expensive ukuleles are made of hardwoods. Some high end ukuleles may even cost thousands of dollars. They are available in some different shapes such as an oval, or a boat-paddle shaped.

Ukulele is mainly available in four variations which are the soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone. The smallest and cheapest of them is the soprano.

The range of cheap to more expensive ukuleles starts with the soprano to alto, tenor, and finally the baritone. Soprano is usually recommended for a ukulele beginner while baritone is enjoyed by guitarist and more experienced ukulele players.

The first thing which needs to be considered before buying a ukulele is your budget. As the price of a ukulele increases, its quality also increases.

If you are considering learning to play the ukulele and purchase one, you need to consider the music books needed and whether you want to learn on your own or with an instructor. It also depends upon level of expertise you hope to achieve within the targeted timeframe.

Before purchasing ukulele, one should also purchase music books with chord charts and are specially written for ukulele. If a person is purchasing a ukulele for a child then the makala range of ukuleles are recommended since they are cost effective and provide great sounds too.

If you are serious about learning the ukulele, then you should start with the soprano ukulele first and once you have reached a certain level and want to progress then you can upgrade to the baritone ukulele.

Before buying a ukulele, you should seek advice of the sales people at the music store since they are the most experienced people in this field and can provide you with some useful tips and guidelines. You can tell them your requirements and your budget, and based on those factors, they can recommend suitable ukuleles.

You can also check the neck of the instrument to make sure that it is straight and does not rotate either way. Feel the ukulele board with your hands by softly running your hands through the neck to make sure that it is smooth. If it is not, it might cut your hands while playing.

Most importantly try playing the entire range of sounds to test the sounds. In a music store where all the music lovers are present, no one will mind at all if you play the ukulele.

If you decide to have ukulele lessons and hire a ukulele teacher, you can invite your ukulele teacher to test the ukulele before purchasing it.

Cruise is a relaxing word. You imagine deck chairs, ocean breezes – and no responsibilities. The word lets your thoughts drift at sea – unless you’re my husband.

John feels confined on ships, he feels confined in the tuxedo he’s expected to wear to formal dinners on board and he can’t be conned into feeling fine about it.

When in doubt – or you can’t get your way – compromise. We compromised by sailing on a small ship – eighty passengers, casual dress and one seating for meals with a set menu.

One advantage of this type of vacation is having to unpack only once. One disadvantage on a small ship is finding a place for everything in a three-drawer locker with three feet of hanging space. There’s no decoration in the utilitarian cabin, but an attractive sign saying, "Less is more" would have been appropriate.

The sign, however, wouldn’t fit in the bathroom, which contained a toilet, sink and hand shower in a four by five foot space. Thankfully, I never got very dirty – I wouldn’t have fit in the bathroom.

Walking seventeen times around the deck was a mile or you could read, which was a euphemism for napping. There was Bingo too. What would a cruise be without Bingo? It would B-2 bad. Although we played for cocktails instead of cash, Bingo was a sobering experience.

Because it was a small ship, there was no shuffleboard, volley ball or exercise machines. Instead, we shuffled cards, volleyed topics of conversation back and forth and exercised our judgment about whether to attend the lectures.

The lectures were about ports we were visiting – their history, their uniqueness and, of course, their shopping. When to have the lectures, however, was a problem for Goldilocks – not in the morning because people wanted to sleep late, not in the afternoon because it could turn happy hour smiles upside down and not after dinner because the snoring would be disruptive. Food for thought was most appetizing before lunch.

I don’t know how long it took Pavlov to condition his dogs to salivate when they heard a bell, but passengers are conditioned by day two. On shipboard eating is the most popular activity. At first you try to be good – no pancakes. no breads, no desserts. However, you soon discover your conscience is on vacation too. It’s a vacation that lets you put your life on cruise control.

With so many options for entertainment at parties, many people are turning to automated musical systems at their parties. This has created the new coining of ‘virtual music’.

One of these is the jukebox, which has been in use since the time when people were still playing vinyl records(LPs).These jukeboxes were mainly mechanical and didn’t offer much in terms of music selection.

The jukebox has been adapted for use with CDs while some are even using digital formats such as MP3 .A jukebox offers solutions to many of the problems traditionally associated with a DJ.

Unlike hiring a DJ, hiring a jukebox does not involve many assessments as it is quite obvious what the machine can do. The jukebox only plays music, in contrast to the DJ who may disrupt the flow of the music by talking too much. You can switch from one type of music to another in an instant. A DJ usually plays different musical tastes in segments. There are many user-friendly features which make hiring a jukebox a favourable option. We shall examine some of them below.

The jukebox has instant play features. It therefore starts playing the music the moment a CD is selected. There is no waiting period. The jukebox can also fade two songs to provide a continuous mix of music. Many people say that this sort of functionality is set to replace the common DJ. This is debatable but it is fair to say that it is partially true.

There are different ways of finding the songs that you want. You can select your song using the CD cover, title or song name, artist name or you can use the category – e.g, hip hop, rap, contemporary or new releases.

This is a huge advantage as it offers the ultimate in crowd interaction and involvement. There’ll thus be no feuding about song selections since everyone gets to have an opportunity to choose their own musical preferences.

The jukebox is quite easy to operate and you can set it auto play when it can select songs at random. This can be done while the people are having their dinner. You can alternatively play your own songs or use the programme manager to ‘theme’ parties.

Some jukeboxes also have a built-in CD player where you can play your own CDs. Quite clearly, hiring a jukebox is worth some consideration when organising your next party.

Children often get bored very easily and needs something that can hold their interest for a long period of time by its variations. Games are no new concept that most children are fascinated with. These not only look attractive because of the bright colors and designing, but also because it allows the player to control the graphics on their computer or television screens.

With the advancement in technology, even this gaming experience has also evolved with time as the decades old adventure of the pinball machines of 19th century got upgraded to the arcade games, mechanical sports and now to the flash games that can be accessible over the Internet.

However, most preferred by children, there is no specific age limit for playing these flash games. In fact, there are websites that offer adult flash games keeping in mind the difficulty and the excitement that can amuse a sane mature individual. There has been a tremendous increase in the number of websites that offer free flash games, which is probably due to more exposure of people including children towards the Internet that has augmented the demand of these games.

Puzzles, action, sports, adventure or casino, no matter what your choice and interest of flash game may be, they are all readily available to give you an exhilarating experience altogether. Furthermore, you can also indulge in the improved versions of the classics like flash games of Mario that are available in the form of 2D and 3D graphics.

Irrespective of the fact if you are alone or with someone, you can take pleasure in playing these flash games at any time of the day or night you may want it to while away the time and that too at the comfort of your home.

There are a few things that should be taken care of when you choose your website for playing online free flash games:

1. Designing of the website – Being used more by children, it is always better to search for a website that is easily navigable. It should not be very complicated as it may annoy children who are often impatient and so would simply switch over to another website without any delay or attempt to understand the working of the website.

2. Colorful – Bright and fun and frolic is what children love and this is how the website providing online flash games should be like. Dull and boring colors would lead most children to simply close the website in the very first time they visited it.

3. Number of games – A website of flash games should have a variety of at least 100 flash games for its players that are frequently updated. This is a very important feature that every website which makes available free flash games must have to keep the strong appeal of the website and the interest of the players for a long duration.

4. Contact form and discussion – There should be a contact or query form available for the players to communicate their doubts and queries to the website owner. A discussion forum is also to help different players communicate with each other.

Play safe online free flash games at Free Online Game 247. You may also like to check out the famous Puzzle Games and Arcade Games section.

We all have our favorite modes of entertainment. Some people like to browse the internet, some like to watch TV and some people like to watch movies. There are people who like to watch action and thrillers or comedies and some people like to watch horror movies. Personally my favorites are comedies but some people get a thrill and a rush from watching old horror movies.

There are different kinds of horror movies. Some are particularly grotesque, with a lot of blood and gore while there are others with an element of suspense and this is what makes for good entertainment. Even those that are big fans of old horror movies might not prefer to watch the ones with too much blood like the saw series of movies.

There must be something about being scared that makes people watch these old horror movies that give them a rush of excitement. I think what happens when you are scared is that the body produces a chemical reaction that gives you the feeling of fight or flight and this gives you an adrenalin rush and this is why people watch these horror movies. Let’s face it, it is a much better way of getting an adrenalin rush than going bungee jumping or sky diving.

Nowadays it is quite easy to get hold of old horror movies. You can buy or rent them on DVD quite cheaply. There are also many websites dedicated to horror movies where you can pick up all your favorite old horror movies. It is also a good idea to see a preview or read the reviews of the movies that you intend to purchase and watch to make sure that it is what you want.

To get the most entertainment from your old horror movies make sure that you set the right atmosphere. Dim or turn off all the lights, make sure that you are alone or with a partner, who also enjoys horror films. There is nothing to disturb you in the middle of an extremely intense scene like unwanted phone calls or visitors. Set the volume to high and just sit back and be prepared to be taken on an intense and exhilarating journey.

So all you have to do is to go ahead and make that journey through your favorite old horror movies of all time. But remember to make your way very carefully, this journey is not for the faint hearted. Remember that every little weird sound is enough to give you a mild heart attack, even if that sound is the sound of wind howling outside.

Creating your film is only part of the filmmaking experience. Working hard on a project and seeing the finished product can be exciting and fulfilling. You made your film to be seen by others, a wide audience who can appreciate, enjoy your hard work and of course to gain recognition. For a beginner filmmaker, especially one who may not have a large budget, this might be a difficult feat. If you are willing to look beyond getting your film into big theatres though, you can get your film seen.

Hosting Your Own Viewing

One of the first steps to take would be to show your film to friends and family. You may have already been having showings of previous films you have made, but if you wish to take this professional, it’s a great way to get your distribution started.

You can host a screening party at your home or a friend or family’s place, an apartment recreation room if your place is too small for everyone, or in someone’s backyard. You could host a BBQ or dinner to go along with it and make it a movie night.

If you have a lot more friends, or want to invite neighbors and their friends, you can rent out a library room or again use an apartment’s recreation room. You could have copies of the film, if you burned it on your computer to give out after the film.

Other places you could approach to have a viewing are: Museums, Parks (which you will need a permit for), at a college that promotes independent films, at a church, (if your movie is appropriate for the venue.) Even some stores such as Apple stores or local stores might offer a space to view your film.

Film Festivals and Independent Theatres

The most obvious way to distribute your film and gaining wide recognition is through a film festival. There are plenty of them around including, but not limited to the large festivals that are covered by television.

Film Festivals vary by genre and even generations. There are festivals just for teenagers or high school students, ones that are ethnic based like the Brazilian Film Festival in Vancouver, Canada.

Some examples of film festivals in both Canada and the United States are: Toronto International Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival, Edmonton International Film Festival, Toronto After Dark Film Festival.

There are many more of course, and even some local ones for cities. It’s a matter of researching your area and genre and finding which ones would suit your film.

Once you have decided on one, you should check out their submission requirements. Not all festivals will take all films, or even unsolicited films. It will be harder to get into the larger festivals like Sundance or Toronto, but it’s not impossible.

Most will require you to submit a VHS or DVD of your film, months before the festival. Check out the time lines for submissions and application requirements. Your film doesn’t necessarily have to be finished by then, but there should be a very good rough cut of it. You will want to make as good of an impression as possible. If you are selected for an interview and screening process, you will then submit a finished product of your film. Your film should be on film itself and not a videotape or DVD. Some festivals will allow VHS or DVD, but not the larger ones.

Don’t get discouraged if you are not picked on the first attempt, festivals do receive many submissions, so there is a lot of competition. Keep trying and you just might get your film entered.

Hollywood has taught us that it pays to look after your business associates. In the Hollywood film Scarface we are taught some key business lessons. The first rule, we are told, is that you must never underestimate the other man’s greed. Further to this Tony Montana, played by Al Pacino, taught us how to negotiate a sale. He always has a mate out back with a shotgun. In The Godfather films we learn a great deal more about successful business techniques. Don Corleone famously makes a business associate ‘an offer he can’t refuse’.

The menace in his voice tells us that the business associate will be killed if he doesn’t comply with the Don’s wishes. Now this is how it is done in Hollywood but fortunately for the modern business man there are simpler, less bloody and much more enjoyable ways of conducting business.

Corporate hospitality events are based solely around making sure you and your delegates enjoy themselves. Second only to gangster threats they are the most effective way of getting that business deal signed and sealed. So what are the alternatives if you don’t want to leave horses head in the bed of your business associate or make threats on their life and the lives of their family members? Here is an introduction to a few of the less violent pastimes that will help you achieve the same result – a successful business deal.

Golf Days

Golf days can be a great way of relaxing with your business associates without having to rush business decisions. They typically include breakfast, a lesson with a pro golfer; lunch a full 18 holes, evening meal and an awards ceremony with prizes. For those that share a passion for watching golf but not necessarily playing it attending a big golf tournament as a spectator is a great way to enjoy the game and experience the buzz of seeing top sportsmen and women compete at the highest level of their profession. The British open championship takes place in summer every year and moves between the top golf courses in the country. July 2008 will see it staged at the Royal Birkdale in Merseyside.

Horse racing

Horse racing provides a fantastic day out for you and your delegates. The ‘sport of kings’ is guaranteed to provide an incredible day of excitement regardless of whether you and your delegates are new to horse racing or seasoned professional gambler. The prestige of the big race meetings such as, The National Hunt Festival at Cheltenham, The Grand National at Aintree and the Royal Ascot at Ascot will combine a great day out with high end luxury. It is a perfect way to entertain your business delegates.

Cricket

For the non-cricketer the idea of attending a cricket game as part of your business relationship might not be the first thing to come to mind but it is well worth considering. The experience of attending a cricket match is like no other. Floodlit matches and Twenty20 matches are bringing excitement to the game that has long been criticised for being slow.

Corporate entertainment at cricket grounds is second to none and will provide you and your delegates with fantastic food and beverages throughout the day. The 2008 cricket calendar sees England play New Zealand and South Africa. Between May and August these games will feature all across the country in the major cricket venues such as Lords, Old Trafford, Trent Bridge, Headingly and Edgbaston.

Shaun Parker has been at the forefront of Corporate Hospitality and has been preparing for the 2008 sports schedule for several years.

Breaking into show business or professional modeling seems insurmountable to most people. Often, people are so desperate to be discovered that they fall for get rich quick schemes, or pay unscrupulous agents who offer quick and easy ways to get to the top. They are uneducated in what one really needs to make it to the top of the acting or modeling game.

Sue Porter Henderson, author of Secrets of Successful Actors and, Sue Porter Henderson, The Working Actor’s Friend says, "If you’re going to go very far with this, it is very important to master the craft. The training is essential for the major, to have major success in film, television and theater and to get one of the top agents to be interested in you to submit you for work. They’re not going to try anybody out."

At the age of 23, Henderson went to New York City seeking fame and fortune in the acting and modeling field. She wasn’t sure what to expect and didn’t know much about the business. She met with failure at most of the modeling agencies she visited, being told she had none of the qualities of a successful model.

She was just about to give up when Wilhelmina Cooper, the owner of one of the top agencies took the time to discuss different options available in the modeling and entertainment field. Henderson became motivated and focused on her career, finding new doors opening in acting, commercial print, and fashion.

The key to finding success is persistence and the training required to become a master at your craft. With the proper training, you can become successful in any career. Training and acting classes are also a plus in your resume, giving you a professional edge.
Agencies want to see that you have developed your talent and have an intimate understanding of what is involved to be a successful performer. Accepting small roles will also get your foot in the door. You must be seen in order to be accepted by reputable agencies.

Attending a university or college that offers acting and performing classes is a must. It doesn’t have to be the best performing arts school or an Ivy League university. Choose an acting school that you feel comfortable with and give it your all. Follow through with the classes to become a professional in the performing arts career you have chosen.

Becoming educated in the physical acting is not the only area you must be proficient in. Also, be aware of the agents and agencies you deal with. Legitimate agencies will not charge to represent you. They make their profit when you land a paying job. Be proactive, becoming knowledgeable of the many scams out there just waiting to empty your bank account.

There are many expenses you need to be aware of to jumpstart your career: Print a resume and cover letter to mail to appropriate agencies, purchase casting guides and manager directories, deal with a consulting service that can put you in touch with the appropriate people in the industry you are interested in.

The next issue is rejection. This is a fact of life in the performing arts. All actors, actresses, and models have faced rejection. It is the persistence that sets the successful performers apart from those that fail. Do not give up; move on to the next interview, or audition. Eventually, the right role will come along. Every role is not meant for everyone. Don’t take rejection personally, but remember this is a business. Each day is a new start toward success.

Take a proactive stand, avoiding the pitfalls of pursuing a career in the arts and entertainment business. Be confident in your abilities, and accept criticism, making adjustments to change the things you are doing wrong. Go out each day and meet new people. Be aware of who they are and if they actually have access to jobs. Visit the appropriate agencies that deal with your expertise.

Remember, the entertainment field is open to all types of people. Success is out there for those who know the business, have confidence, persistence, and talent.

Guitar tablatures are a great way for guitarists to communicate how a song is played. Many musicians rely on standard notation as a means of recording their songs and helping other musicians to see how they are played, but guitar tabs make it possible for guitarists who cannot read music in standard notation to do this. Easy guitar tabs often seem quite confusing to new and beginning guitarists, but with a little bit of instruction it is actually quite easy to learn how to read them. Guitar tabs are set up in a very practical manner – six horizontal lines represent the six strings of the guitar, the bottom line representing the lowest E string and the top line representing the higher E string. In order to show which notes are to be played, guitar tabs use numbers to show the guitarist which fret is to be played. A "O" indicates that an open string is to be played and multiple numbers printed in a column indicate a chord – all notes should be played at once.

There are many uses for easy guitar tabs. By adding a few easy guitar tabs to your daily practice routine you can make your practice sessions more exciting. If you are used to simply repeating notes and chords as a method of memorizing them you may have realized just how boring this can be. If, instead, you apply the skills you have been working on by playing a tab, you can make things infinitely more exciting. Not only do guitar tabs provide you with a break from monotony but they can also help you to develop your skills in transitioning between notes and chords. In your practice sessions you may be used to following a certain pattern of notes and chords, but in guitar tabs the patterns vary and this can be much more interesting. This will also prepare you for when the time comes that you choose to play guitar songs. There are many benefits to learning how to read tabs early on in your career as a guitarist and it does not take much time to learn. All you have to do is seek a little bit of help from a friend who plays the guitar or simply look up a few online resources. There are many resources available to you, all you need to do is take advantage of them.

There are literally millions of people that are striving each and everyday to make an easy buck online. The idea of making money online and especially, making money on eBay, is not new. In fact, the eBay market is a little too saturated if you ask me.

With all the nail-biting, finger-clawing, head to head competition for bids on eBay, I thought it would be nice to take a step back and poke some fun at the eBay rush. Below is a list of the top 10 signs that your addicted to eBay. Anyone that uses, or has used eBay will be able to appreciate the truth behind the list.

The Top 10 Signs Your Addicted to eBay!

10. You consider selling the piece of chewing gum you found on your shoe.

9. You apply for a new loan and give your pay pal address as your only bank account.

8. You’ve taken down the degree and awards in your office to be replaced by self made power seller print-outs.

7. You save all your toe-nail clippings in a jar, hoping that one day they may be worth a small fortune.

6. You wear the same underwear for a week, waiting for your chance to outbid "gstring-guru" on a pair of used designer briefs.

5. You spend several hours a day trying to burn the face of Mary onto pieces of French Toast.

4. You’ve marked 87 separate – 2 inch sections on your body that can be sold as advertising space to the highest bidder.

3. You’ve lost so much sleep due to bidding wars that you are chosen as Christian Bale’s replacement in The Machinist II.

2. You have to see a therapist because the negative feedback you got is killing your self esteem.

And the number 1 sign that you use eBay way too much,
1. You go to the county registrar and change your legal name to your eBay User ID.

While this list is meant to be a spoof on the David Letterman top 10 lists, the truth behind the humor is meant to hit home. eBay, like many other online sites have both good and bad users, many of which are out to take your money and run.

When you are using eBay, be sure to check the seller and buyer feedback prior to bidding. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, or insist that the seller "prove" the authenticity of their product. In the end, if you have any doubts about bidding on an item, walk away. Most things people bid on are not needed and definitely not worth taking the risk of being ripped off.

Adriana wants to contribute something positive and loving to the world at large and she wants to be recognized for her beauty, artistic gifts, or loving generosity. This is why promoting beauty, the arts, or entertainment can make Adriana Lima very happy, up to the point where she is being more involved in her career than in her private life.

Her desire for harmonious relationships and surroundings is so strong that she avoids personal confrontation or any expression of intense, unpleasant emotions. Adriana Lima is an idealist who would like to paint the world in pastel colors, and live in peace and harmony with others at all times. She is able to see points of similarity and unity with people who are vastly different from her, and befriend many different types of people. She is a considerate and thoughtful friend, and has a real flair for making others feel accepted and appreciated.

Adriana Lima has a soft exterior and tends to relate very personally and sympathetically to other people. However, Adriana sometimes lets her emotions overpower her reasoning and logic, and consequently she is sometimes biased in her opinions. Adriana Lima is impressionable and rather gentle, or at least that is the way she appears. Her feelings are on the surface and Adriana cannot hide her emotions. However, inwardly, Adriana Lima is often torn with indecision and is much more at odds with herself than others would ever guess based on her flawless disposition.

Her emotions are very intense, but often hidden. Like a volcano, one minute Adriana Lima seems quite peaceful and the next, she is exploding with great force and unexpected fury. The intensity of her reactions often surprises even her. Adriana has tremendous zeal and tends to be an emotional fanatic about things she cares about. Her feelings and desires can be so compelling that she does things against her better judgment and reason. Lima can also be very manipulative, in a subtle way. Her personal relationships are deeply emotional, passionate and often stormy and painful as well.

Adriana Lima tends to surround herself with people who are gentle, sensitive, peace-loving, and artistically or spiritually inclined, and there is a strong element of mutual compassion and sympathy in her personal relationships. It is easy for Adriana to tune in psychically to other people’s feelings and emotional worlds. Adriana Lima may share this type of telepathic link with her mother, sisters, or female friends in particular.

She responds to her environment in a highly emotional way and encounters with other people can get her excited easily. Her mood tends to change quickly, though, depending on the response Adriana receives from others.

Sensitive and sentimental, Adriana Lima is deeply attached to her family, old friends, familiar places and the past. She is romantic and tender in love relationships, and it is of utmost importance to Lima to remember birthdays, anniversaries, family rituals and other personally significant days. Adriana Lima seeks caring, emotional support, and security in her love relationships. Adriana likes to be needed, as well as to cherish and protect her loved ones, of whom she is somewhat possessive.

People have always loved to watch movies at home, but high end home theaters and high definition television have made it more of a pastime. People tightening their belts also keeps them inside for their entertainment. These things have both changed the way we shop for and rent movies. The local movie rental place used to be just fine for most of us. On the same token, so did VHS tapes. Times have changed. Now you can have movies delivered to your door and elimate the late fees from a number of services. The availability of fast food delivered to your door as well makes staying at home more appealing to most people.

Some services only deliver movies. Depending on your plan, you get two or three movies in the mail at a time. Once you have watched your fill of them, you send them back and they send you new ones. These plans are great for families with a weekly movie night, and they are especially good for families with different tastes because you can get multiple movies in at a time. Most houses have more than one television now, so why not more than one movie. Other services send you movies in the mail, but also give you access to their store. This means that while you are waiting for a movie to get back in the mail and to get your new one, you can pick one up at the video store. This type of plan is better for families that watch more movies and houses with a lot of young people. This could mean a lot of small children or a house with college students in and out.

How this affects your high definition viewing depends on the type of movies you watch and how many. Many small movie rental places have been driven out of business by the larger chains and services that send movies in the mail. The option of having your movies delivered saves people who watch a lot of movies some money. When you have a flat rate for movies and can watch as many as you like, at home entertainment is a much better alternative to going out. Sending movies back three at a time means you could watch over 15 movies every month. That number increases if you can pick a video up at the video store. So, this begs the question, why go out?

When people talk about the famous musicians from Memphis, frequently the name of B.B. King comes up. However, contrary to popular belief, B.B. King is not one of the original musicians from Memphis. In fact, he came to Memphis from Bena, Mississippi after World War II in 1946.

Although B.B. King is not technically one of the musicians from Memphis, he did play there for a significant amount of time. Most importantly, he made a huge contribution to the kind of music that came out of the area by bringing his electric guitar to accompany his song writing and singing talent. Musicians from Memphis stood up and took notice, adopting some of the electrical sounds that their music had previously lacked.

Before the wave of African American migrants hit big urban areas like Memphis in search of jobs, musicians from Memphis did not have a very advanced sound, technologically speaking. Sure, there were plenty of instruments like regular guitars, banjos, mandolins and violins to accompany the sad voices of these musicians, but there were also unusual items that were utilized to make a new kind of music.

Musicians from Memphis would frequently use household items like washboards to add a more unique, down home sound to the blues. Other items, like spoons, could make a noise that had not been heard by many people in America, especially in the WASPier crowds. Particularly interesting is how musicians from Memphis would use jugs. Instead of using the very basic and common bass guitar, which was often times too expensive to afford, musicians from Memphis would blow into various sized jugs to make a deep and hollow sound.

Among the most popular bands and musicians from Memphis to use the jugs as instruments were the Memphis Jug Band and Gus Cannons Jug Stompers. This distinct style of music placed an emphasis on the danceable rhythms that were prominent and very much evident in archaic folk and early jazz. Musicians from Memphis were highly sought after by the executives at Sun Records.

Today, musicians from Memphis still greatly influence almost all kinds of great songs that we all hear on the radio. Bruce Springsteen name checked W.C. Handy and Beale Street in his song Walking in Memphis, and just about all rock & roll singers have been heavily influenced by most musicians from Memphis. Moreover, musicians from Memphis are all over nearly each and every rhythm and blues album.

Do you wish you had more time to read, keep up with the latest bestsellers or rediscover the classics? If your life goes by too fast for a relaxing read on the sofa, why not try an audio book? The latest MP3 technology has made the audio book more popular than ever with a vast number of titles available today, often with famous name actors reading them. You can listen to your audio book on long car drives or during your daily commute, on your iPod while out running or at the gym.

An audio book is exactly what it sounds like – a published book read aloud and recorded. It sticks to the text of the book, so you are hearing just what is printed in the original book. It can be read by one person, or by a variety of actors reading the dialogue of the different characters.

The latest Mp3 technology has freed up the world of audio books considerably. Whereas a book used to take up several cassettes or CDs, a long novel can now be compressed onto only a couple of CDs or into a manageable download.

You have two great, affordable options available to access a huge library of audio books online.

1. You can join on online audio book rental service that offers free shipping both ways and sends you the CDs of your choice to listen to.

2. You can buy your audio book as a direct download by joining an online book club.

Your choice will depend on your own listening preferences and maybe on where the title you want is most easily available. If you intend to listen to your audio book on your iPod or another MP3 player, then a direct download will be the fastest and most convenient option. Do check before joining a club that the audio downloads provided are compatible with your chosen listening device.

If you favor a CD format to listen at home through a good sound system, or in a car CD player then the CD rental option also offers a huge list of titles. The rental option can also be cost-effective for listeners who get through several audio books a month as they offer an unlimited number of rentals for your monthly fee.

Both these options offer 2 week trial periods at no charge so, if you are not sure which to go for, you can try each one out to see which works best for you.

Audio books can of course also be purchased off-line through book stores and are available in libraries.

Audio books are also great for children, who can listen to their favorite stories again and again and if you get them a copy of the book as well, they can follow the text as they listen, helping them with word recognition in a fun and relaxed way. This is also a great solution to the boredom of long car journeys for kids – a set of headphones and their favourite story on an audio book will save you a whole lot of "Are we nearly there yet?"s!

British art fsns have been able to indulge their love for Rolf Harris as the artists’ national tour continued last week.

The Australian entertainment legend was at the Whitewall Gallery in Bournemouth on June 11th to promote his ‘A Life in Art’ exhibition, which featured a number of limited edition Rolf Harris prints.

Rolf’s national tour is in celebration of his 80th year and he explained that his longevity and enduring popularity was down to the fact that he genuinely enjoyed his career as an artist and entertainer.

He told the Bournemouth Echo: "I guess it’s all down to doing something that you love to do and getting paid to do it."

The next stop on the British tour was Wales where Rolf attended the Blue Dot Gallery in St David’s shopping centre in Cardiff.

Rolf has an emotional connection to the country through his Welsh wife Alwen and family ties in Merthyr Tydfil where his father and uncle emigrated from.

Harris revealed that he enjoys meeting art fans who have come from across the United Kingdom to view Rolf Harris prints and learn more about the artwork on display.

He told Wales Online: "You end up going along to these exhibitions and you don’t even manage to get round the paintings, there are so many people coming up to you and asking for your autograph and wanting to talk about the work, it’s nice."

Rolf’s Welsh adventure continued as he followed up the Cardiff event with a date in Swansea at the Ice House where Rolf Harris prints were ranging in value from £55 to £1,295.

The octogenarian said that he thought his exhibitions appealed to people because they included a wide variety of subjects.

He told Wales Online: "You’ve got brush scenes from Australia, studies from time we spent in South Africa last year, a great quantity of work, and that’s more engaging for most people I think. I’ll paint anything that catches my attention really."

Rolf will be taking his tour to High Wycombe where he will exhibit at the Whitehall gallery on June 19th.

Lotte Pedersen-Hill, gallery manager, told the Bucks Free Press that she was excited to have Rolf Harris prints on display as they have previously moved people to tears.

She said: "The technical composition of his work is amazing. I have seen someone stand and cry at his work because they love it so much."

Tennis fans attending Wimbledon this year will be able to view a Rolf Harris portrait of his ten favourite tournament champions.

Bringing a bubbly exuberance and mainstream pop sensibility to the country scene made the Dixie Chicks one of the hottest country acts of the ‘90s—and certainly one of the biggest in mainstream country history. Over the ensuing decades they’ve risen as the quintessential pop band for cowpokes of all brands, despite working through controversy stemming from their outspoken political beliefs.

The band’s history traces all the way back to 1989, when they were in fact a quartet. They were formed from fiddler Martie Seidel, banjoist Emily Erwin, bassist Laura Lynch and guitarist Robin Lynn Macy. The foursome started out the old fashioned way—busking on street corners. They named themselves after the Little Feat song “Dixie Chickens,” and dressed themselves to match their old-school country sound. They scored a record deal and released their debut, Thank Heaven for Dale Evans, in 1990. It didn’t attract much notice, but it was a start.

In 1992, they released a follow-up, Little Ol’ Cowgirl, and creative differences led to Macy leaving the band. They soldiered on as a trio, releasing 1993’s Shouldn’t A Told You That, which still saw them making little traction on the charts or in the minds of reviewers. Lynch left not long after that, and interviews with her suggest that, in her view, her band mates were looking to maintain a “younger” look in the band. The fact that she was replaced by 21-year-old Natalie Maines gives some credence to this theory.

There was a long break for the young trio, but in 1998 they returned in a big way, releasing their smash success Wide Open Spaces. No one—not even the band—expected the album to be the achievement it was. Several of its singles became number ones, and in less than a year the record went platinum four times. It wasn’t just a commercial success, either. Country critics loved the friendly pop sound, and the record won a Grammy for Best Country Album.

A year later, they put out Fly, which simply served to cement their status as country pop superstars. They earned some critical marks for songs such as “Goodbye Earl,” a dark tale about a young woman who marries young only to find her husband abuses her regularly. The conclusion is grim, with the woman poisoning him and disposing his body in a lake. This was not the typical face of country, and it shocked some listeners, while others were greatly impressed with the range of material the Dixie Chicks were capable of.

Several successful live tours followed, but controversy was waiting in the wings. In 2003, the band began to openly criticize the war in Iraq and President George Bush—and received plenty of criticism in return. It led to much consternation amongst fans when they finally released 2006’s Taking the Long Way, which still sold well despite fans still being irked about their anti-Bush views.

Though they’ve surely lost some fans during their career, there are many who find their music too good to keep away. Those are the people you still see waiting in line with Dixie Chicks tickets in hand from http://www.stubhub.com/dixie-chicks-tickets/.

A compliment is a verbal gift. In fact, it’s the only gift that makes people happy when it’s returned.

Verbal gifts come in a variety of forms – someone asking you for your advice, someone introducing you as a friend, someone copying what you did. Imitation is supposedly the sincerest form of flattery, which makes plagiarism flattery – but still wrong.

The expression "pay a compliment" is wrong. You’re not meant to say something nice to someone to pay a debt – unless you’re sucking up. The expression should be "give a compliment".

As a child I was embarrassed when I was praised. My grandmother told people that "I could take a kind word, but I couldn’t take it far". That’s changed. Bring on the kind words.

Of course, if it’s about my appearance, I’d rather have the words come from a woman than a man. From a woman they come from the heart. From a man they can come from another part of the anatomy.

One of the most appreciated accolades I ever received from a man was from a New York City cab driver. After getting the courage to drive in the city, I cut off a cabbie to make a right turn. If I had a picture of him giving me the finger, it would be framed and on my desk.

Unfortunately, I don’t know where to put the shock when another mother says something nice about my sons’ behavior. Is she really talking about the boys I’m constantly "asking" to be quiet, to stop teasing each other, to stop roughhousing and to stop fighting? The next time it happens I hope I have pictures of my boys with me so the mother can make a visual ID.

Too often we don’t get the admiration we deserve. Too often what we do is taken for granted. That’s why we have to learn to pat ourselves on the back. When I broke the heel of my shoe while running to be less late for a meeting and never made it to my son’s soccer game, I should have taken time to pat myself on the back for not going home and covering my head with the bed sheets until the next morning. When patting ourselves on the back, however, we have to be careful not to sprain our shoulder. Compliments carry a lot of weight because they lift our spirits.
